There is a specific wire that activates the starter selenoid. I suspect the wire is not connected or has a bad connection. Also, there is a ground under the hood that is often put on with a self tapping metal screw. Often that ground is connected poorly and sometimes wound around the hood pneumatic lifter. The ground is often broken or corroded and will cause the exact condition you described. Good Luck...Joe C.

Car died and wont restart

If the starter turns but doesn't engage then the starter relay is defective. Have it replaced.

My darango won't start, replaced that alternator and relays. starter is still good. but it won't even click over.

this could be as simple as a bad battery have you tryed to jump start it? if you try and that dosent work make sure you have power going to the starter with jumper cables on the battery. it should at the very least make a clicking sound while trying to start it check the battery posts also make sure they are clean and if it does click give it a minute and try starting it again.[ dont take the cables off the battery while waiting] the fact the starter doesent even click when you try to start it tells me no power to it or bad starter remember just because its new dosent mean it works i cant tell you how many times i have put somethig on a car and had to take it back off because it didnt work from the boxx new. and make sure the starter wires are tight and clean. if no clicking and you have power to starter then starter is bad.. i hope this helps..

Change the starter on my 03 chevy impala still wont start

You mean the engine dosent turn or the engine dont start. If it dosent turn then try to turn it manually by a socket and ratchet in the crank pully bolt, I have changed the starters only to find out the engine is seased.

I turn the key and the lights come on, but when i go to start it dosent do anything. when i hit the brake i here clicking behide the drive selector

Try jump starting. Lights take alot less power than starter. I suspect you battery is in need of replacement. If it starts with a jump, stop by your local parts store Autozone, Advance, etc.. and have them do a FREE charging system test and LOAD test your battery. They do this for FREE.
The clicking when applying brakes is normal, it's your brake light switch

Having trouble starting my ford escort 1997. i think its the starter solenoid. It clicks but dosent turn over. The battery checked out good.

If the starter solenoid just clicks, the starter is the most likely problem, replace it to solve the problem,if this was helpful, please rate, thank you.

try hitting it as the vehicle is being turned over, if it works you have a faulty solinoid, if it dosent then the starter is dead , if that dosent work, try locating the earth lead that connects the engine to the body that might be broken, to test this, just get a thick length of wire, touch it to the outside of the starter and touch the other end of the wire to the earth on the battery then see how you go hope that helps

Making a hair dryer noise when started, having trouble starting, and check engine light is on.

Sounds like the bindex on the starter is out. This means that the starter will spin but it dosent make contact with the flywheel to turn the engine over. You probley need a new starter.

Starter makes weird noise dosent turn over

Starter drive not engaging fully . Sticky or worn, but don't think changing thermostat had anything to do with it. Try having starter drive inspected & lubed if possible , but you may end up with new starter.
