Question about 2001 Audi TT

1 Answer

Misfiring My Audi TT 180 has a misfiring problem which has been on-going for approx 6 months even though i've had a tech guy look at it twice without success. We're changed the pencil coil on the offending cylinder [#1] and put copious amounts of petrol additive to eliminate a decoke problem. The petrol additive thing seemed to work intially but after 50 miles the problem is back. It does seem to be one of those things that clear for a while then comes back with no obvious reason. Help!!

Thanks for those suggessions all of the relevant ones i had already addressed, also i swopped plugs around, pencil coils around and injectors around, all with seemingly no joy.

Now the fault has disappeared [for the mean time anyways] and it's running like a top at the moment.

There are some common things that causes a misfire, one of them could be a faulty spark plug or a bad spark plug wire, another could be a clogged fuel filter, if both of those solutions fail try having the timing checked. Good luck.

It could also be an ignition sensor, mine went out and the car kept misfiring. Once I had it replaced that took care of the misfiring issue.

when its mis-firing it is surley putting engine management light on so get codes read.
also when mis-firing need to check to make sure injectors pulsing usually done with magnistick light. if one not working could be injector or feed/earth from engine ecm. also remove and check continuity of coil packs incase another gone faulty.

havent a clue here ,one cylinder now another missing ,only one thing comes to mind here and thats the coil pack ,check the voltage across the battery with engine running at 1500rpm and if its higher than 15.5 volts of their abouts then the alternator regulator is playing up and this would cause problems with the coil pack or the ECU ,also the radio could blow and lots of bulbs.Other that this i would need to get my greasy hands on it and give the magic hammer treatment

Audi tt 180, 2000 imobiliser problem

I have the same problem. Short term answer for me is to disconnect battery for 30 seconds and then the car will start. I have the infamous dashpod problem and the keys and eveything are coded into the dashpod so I'm hoping when I get mne replaced the immobilser problem will go to,at least the guys who work on my car reckon so.
With the regular need to disconnect he battery I leave the three screws for the battery cover finger tight and the battery contact loose enough to wriggle off. I can do it start to finish in a couple of minutes but is a mjor pain still.

Engine has miss-fire

First check spark plugs/wires/distributor cap (tune up). Also would be good idea to use fuel injector cleane and change fuel filter and O2 sensor.
Hope that helps
Good Luck
