Question about 2002 Pontiac Grand Am

My 02 Grand Am GT won't accelerate WHYYYYYYYY!!!!!?

I have a 2002 Grand Am GT V6.. Awhile back i was driving the car and started having troubles accelerating. A strange sound would come from the engine as i pressed the gas pedal.. the sound would get louder the harder i pressed. I wouldn't accelerate at all. The car eventually slowed to a stop and wouldn't start.

I recently got a jump and the car starts and idles fine. I looked at the belt and pulleys and my idler pulley is the only pulley not spinning. I'm not even sure if it's supposed to spin or what it does. There is also a strange sound coming from the area of the belt.

My car has over 100k miles on it and i don't know if the spark plugs have ever been changed, if the transmission fluid has ever been changed, if the fuel filter or fuel pump has been changed or anything.. if there is some suggestion that could possibly give me a quick fix to just make it to autozone it would greatly be appreciated

All your pulleys should be turning if there not then the pulley is bad, the sound coming from your engine could be the bearings in one of your pulleys are going out or the belt is slipping, you could try lubing the pulley to see if it will turn, if the pulley thats not turning is on the belt tensioner your tensioner might be bad ,if the belt is slipping your alternator will not be able to charge your battery while driving wich would cause your car to stall, if you drive at a low speed your car might not stall.

These are in a tight spot. You may have to remove the exhaust crossover pipe to get it out. It can be done with some snap on swivel sockets and alot of sweat.

2000 grand am bogs engine light flashes stays on for awhile then goes off

The flashing light is indicating an "over fueling" condition that can cause damage to the catalytic converter.
A defective or stuck injector is typically the root cause.
Take the vehicle to your local Auto Zone and ask to have the trouble codes read. Write the codes down and respond back to me, we can get started on fixing the issue.

have you checked the engine for vacume leaks or advanced timing or even sticking accelorator cable or linkage? these are always a good place to start for excess acceleration

02 pontiac grand am

I have a 2002 grand am and less than a year ago had to replace cadalitic converter. The check engine light would come on once in awhile, and the car will start to bogg down. It started out as intermitent then eventually all the time. The smell may be the heating up of the converter.
