Question about Cars & Trucks
I have posted before and the check engine light has not come back on so what do you think i should check. Can it be scanned still with the light off.It really sounds like a misfire but not sure I put new plugs in it a while back.So if anybody could give me a logical theory I would appreciate it.
Check out your throttle position sensor voltages w a scan tool , engine off key on, compare to specs given in auto repair manual for your car. Voltages should change smoothly in the specified range, if voltage takes a sudden jump or experiences a zero reading anywhere then the problem is the tps. When is the last time your fuel filter was changed ? Some of these are not replaceable without removing the fuel pump in the tank. When you put in the plugs did you also replace the wires? P.S an intermittent tps won't always leave a trouble code in the computer. Also clean out the throttle body and idle air control unit with an approved spray cleaner and a rag with engine off and key off. Have someone hold the throttle pedal to the floor to make this job easier. After cleaning hold gas pedal to the floor and start up then when engine starts, rev engine half way a couple of times to remove any excess carbon from the system then let engine idle. This should be done once every 6 months whether having idling problems or not, just to avoid having them. If the throttle body is dirty it can and will cause a stumble comparable to a miss.

a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.

Take the car to a local Auto Parts Retailer, and have them check the fault codes on your on-board computer. Given the year of your car, it is probably an OBD-2 type computer. They can print out whatever the computer diagnostic says the problem is. I am going to guess the throttle position sensor is to blame since it sounds just like what my sister's Mazda Mommyvan was doing.

SOURCE: This is a follow up question on my 2003 ford focus zx3 2.3 litre it cuts out when idles does not stall and the check engine light goes on for a while then will go off my question is can I still retrie
You can use a Code Reader or Professional Scan Tool
any time you want to
You connect under the dash & turn the key to the on position
Motor doesn't have to run
Your checking to see if any data is stored or present in the
If the check light flashed or stayed on & did it several times,
you should have codes
Then only issue will be if they are Enhanced Codes, then the code
reader won't retrieve them
What you need to keep in mind & no one understands, is that
codes do not tell you what is wrong or tell you to replace any
The codes along with trouble charts, knowledge, experience, etc
are use to conduct testing of the system with the fault codes
