1985 corvette running problems

The car idles fine and is ok when the car is cold as it gets hot and you step on the gas the car chokes out and sputters really bad. I have done a tune up changed the fuel pump and filter and still it has the problem.

I have the same problem with mine but it's not just when the car is hot and yes the check engine light comes on periodically aslo. We have changed the plugs, wires and other things and it still does it. We have not changed the fuel pump yet, but would love to know if someone may have an aswer for this.

CHECK THE VOLTAGE ON THE TPS, IT SHOULD BE .45 TO .54. GO WITH THE .54 AS THE MOTOR NEEDS TO BE RICHER DUE TO THE ALCOHOL IN THE FUEL. YES THERE IS AL IN YOUR FUEL. I SET MINE TO .57 AND THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. NO MORE STUMBLE. ALSO THE CHANGE IN FUEL REALY DOES NICE THINGS TO THESE CARS. CHECK THE EGR VALVE TO SEE IF IT IS STUCK.

I've a 1981 Vette that idles very rough with a cold engine start.

You need to have the choke adjusted so it runs on a fast idle so the engine can warm up or you may need the carb to be rebuild and adjusted properly.

Sputters and dies on cold start, significant drop in gas mileage.

You need to rebuild the carburetor or clean the choke linkage and make sure the choke valve closes cold.

Edelbrock 1406 3 years old on a Chevy 350 corvette. Starts and runs great when cold but when it heats up to running temp. and I shut off the engine it will not start!! Has great spark, compression, and fuel....

Check the choke and make sure that the choke is all the way open when hot. The choke should only be closed when cold. The choke can be adjusted on the side by loosening the 3 screws and wathcing the butterfly valve.

1985 dodge ramcharger, carburetor issues

Sounds like a problem I had with my '85 Dodge D150 Ram Prospector. In my case, the automatic choke was broken and it was starved for air during acceleration because the choke was always closed. It ran fine at idle or very slow acceleration. I wired the choke open and it runs much better, although it is much more difficult to start as the fuel mix is lean due to the extra air. Once it gets warmed up, though, it runs fine. I hear that the barrel carb on mine often has problems.

Your automatic choke is probably sticking. Spray it out with 2+2 Carb and Choke Cleaner. Do this when the car is cold so you don't start a fire. While the car is running see what position the choke butterfly is in when the engine is hot. If it is partially closed you may have a bad spring in the choke mechanism or it may need an adjustment.

Have a 1985 mazda rx7 will not idle .. cold start ok when choke is on once warm stalls and will not idle

There is a throtle adjuster right behind the carb. You can adjust it with a screw driver. If you are not sure where it is, just have someone press to gas pedal and you will see it move. RPM's at idle should be around 1,000 when it is idle once it has warmed up. Once that car warms up the choke moves back in and the car is probably stalling because it is not running enough RPM's.
