    Thanks for the help daves944,

It wasn't the distributor cap it was water in the spark plugs.

New wires and plugs fixed the problem.

Well, I know it has at least one distributor cap full of water. I'm not that familiar with this engine, so it might have two caps, one at the front of each cam. Whatever, one or two...take the distributor cap(s) off and dry them out with a clean towel and a hair dryer, then let the car sit for at least two hours before replacing the cap(s) after you have dried the the inside of the distributor(s) as well with warm air. You have to let it sit with the cap(s) off so that trapped moisture has time to evaporate out. If you don't, when the engine warms up, water drops inside the distributor will vaporize and enter the cap again. Sometimes you have to do this several times to get all the water out.

How do I fix, bad idle in suzuki swift , check light on, no codes.

the title is contradiction
" check light on, no codes."<< totally wrong
scan it one more time with a REAL scan tool this time. (there are DTC errors , or codes as you said)

what does bad idle mean? misfiring, or idle speed too low
or too high? RPM, or
surging?

say what that means please.
and more important is engine hot or cold ? failing.???? or both????
there are over 50 causes.
but can be broken down to simple physics and gauges.
1: engine bad, lost compression.
2: engine cant breath, dirty air cleaner
3: ISC stuck closed or open or just stuck. (bad idle air supply)
4: bad spark, 1 or all 4 (never had a tune in this decade.
5: cam drive, slipped (belt) causing #1 failure.
6: air fuel mix too lean, and causes rpm drop and ISC fails.
7: air fuel mix too rich and misfires.
8: egr stuck open, it misfires and ISC gives up.
9: cat clogged, engine cant breath #2 like.
10: and the vast other reasons for misfire.

we cant drive it, see it or hear it misfire, so.....????

there is a test for all 10, ask. or get car serviced.

Troubleshooting a rough idle

Have the engine computer scanned for trouble codes. Misfires are from loss of fuel, spark, or compression. Check the fuel pressure, check that all spark plugs are getting spark, and if all good so far, test engine compression. Low compression in a cylinder will cause misfires and loss of power.

It could also be a vacuum leak- a loose or cracked vacuum hose or an intake gasket leak.

Will the heads have to be pulled in order to check so see if it is a valve that is causing low compression? How long can you drive on a p0303 ?

Low compression does not require head removal. Do a compression test on a cylinder, then squirt some oil in the spark plug hole. Do the compression test on that cylinder again. If the compression goes up then the rings are worn. P0303 is a misfire in cylinder 3. This lets unburnt gas into the catalytic convertor. The cat can overheat, melt and be ruined. If the check engine light is blinking don't drive the car. A misfire is either no gas, no spark or low compression. The quivering light can be from idle or failing alternator. Put the probs of a multimeter on the battery posts. Set the meter to volts dc. Start the car the voltage should be between 13 and 14.6 volts. Anything more or less points to an alternator problem.

Needs fuse box location and car idles rough

Fuse box is behind the soft panel under your steering wheel. Is your check engine light flashing or on? Would be a misfire causing the rough idle if it is flashing. A possible bad coil. If its just a shake with no check engine light then it could just be a motor mount.

Rough idle with check engine light

Usually a rough idle on a Honda is a result of the idle speed being too low. What is your RPM suring idle now. Try to increase it using the screw on the idle air control by only a quarter turn at a time. Hope this helps.
