The other day when I was driving around 90km/hr I started to notice a vibration coming from the rear of my 2006 Jeep Liberty. I could also smell something hot but couldn't see anything. Tonight I

I've only taken my Jeep offroading once and it was down an unimproved road that wasn't even that bad and I didn't even need to put it in 4x4 as it was for the most part dry and boring. The shaking and smoke started 2 days afterwards though so not sure if something happend?

Have you checked the rear differential for fluid lately?

  • Anonymous Apr 18, 2013

I just had the oil change done at Mr.Lube and they usually check that but I will check it myself.

  • Anonymous Apr 18, 2013

I checked and the fluid is good and doesn't have a burnt smell to it.

SOURCE: 2001 Jeep Cherokee Vibration at highway speeds

That kind of vibration generally can be associated with a binding universal joint. Sometimes you can see a bit of rust around the seals, sometimes not. The "shake" test is generally valid only with vehicle off the ground and trans in neutral, but sometimes the bearings are fused with rust and do not move.If "eyeball" inspection reveals nothing , remove the driveshaft (s) and physically move joints. If overly loose or binding they are bad. If after complete inspection you still come up with nothing then it's time to look at other "oddball" things.
good luck

SOURCE: 2003 jeep liberty driving fine oil light comes on and car dies

Go to the shop, remove the oil dipstick and smell the oil, ( well maybe first you should get a base line by smelling normal, new oil) if you burned up your oil, it will smell really bad like burnt....well burnt oil like when a car is blowing blue smoke. If it smells really bad like burnt, they are probably telling you the truth and you need to find out where the oil leaked out...if it seems like the oil drained out the oil pan or the filter, the people who changed your oil could be held liable for not tightening down those parts properly. Since you werent burning oil, my guess is that you were leaking it. If the motor will not turn over but you can hear the starter engage, you definatley seezed up you engine. But i really really hope that the mechanics are full of **** and that you do not need to replace your engine. No matter what you do, keep any parts removed from your vehicle to have inspected by another mechanic for review. For instance, if you have brake pads replace at the discression of the mechanic, ask for the old brake pads back and take to antoher shop to see if they really needed to be replaced or not.

Mine did this too....the latch kept getting stuck. If you put the key in the ignition and unlock the power doors, pull on the gate door (don't open it, just enough to release the latch), and it should come out so the hatch will latch.

2006 jeep liberty starting issues

When it does not start, spray some starter fluid in the throttle body. Then if it starts you know you have a fuel delivery problem. Could be relay or connections.

Water leaks into rear left cargo area in 2006 Jeep Liberty during heavy rain. Think it's coming from roof rack but no water comes in when I aim a hose at it.

Could be the rear wheel is splashing up the water onto the cargo area, only when you drive. It might be a hole in the floor of the cargo area letting in the water.

Jeep 2005 liberty. When I drive my jeep more than 30 miles lots of smoke and burning smell come out. The weird thing is that the oil meter is not indicating it is hot.

Hello....

Sounds like you might have a blown valve cover gasket. That is were I recommend you to start checking. If that is good, check for a leak around the intake manifold.

Good Luck...
