2007 Cobalt brake lights not working

I have a 2007 Chevy Cobalt that the two outside brake lights will not work when the car is off. The center brake light work like normal. Parking lights work fine. There is a TSB #3347 for this problem, but I can't get info on it. Help...

When the key is in the on position, the rear brake lights work. When the key is in the off position, the rear brake lights will not turn on when pressing the the brake pedal. The center rear brake light works like normal regardless of the key position.

    cantonsouthb,

This car in not equipped with ABS and does not have speed sensors. Could be anything else?

  • j_mulhearn Mar 11, 2009

The car is still under warranty. I'll take it the dealer tomorrow and when they fix it I'll post it to the site.

I called the dealer and they said that this is not a problem, but a new feature on GM vehicles. The brake lights are not suppose to work when the key is in the off position or not in at all. It is to prevent battery run down if the brake peddle switch becomes stuck.

You have a bad left front wheel speed sensor. try putting a little die-electric grease in the connection

07 Chevy Cobalt brake lights do not work. turn signals work, tail lights work, Cyclops brake light also works. Fuse is good. New bulbs

so 3 lamps (usa deal with cyclops)

and you say 2 fail L/R and center works?
is that true. or a typo.... ?
if never seen any car wiring go to center then left then right
in a daisy chain.
most go left , then both seperate path to center and right.
in USA, we have LHD cars, not right. side. drive.
and RHD cars are wired, backwards.
i refuse to do world wide Cobalt market look ups. no country state and all lights is different world wide as are color codes.

ok try on light at a time, put in, take out, move it 3 times.
works?

I bet all 3 are dead for brakes.
if true.
its the brake lamp switch malfing.
or cut wires ,due to trailer hitch goons. (hackers)

Third brake light on constantly, other brake lights seem not to work at all

It sounds like you need a brake light switch. It is mounted under the dash on the pedal assembly. It is easy to change, just twists in place. Good Luck

2007 chevy brake lights dont work but the center one does

Try looking under the dash, on the brake pedal arm there will be a switch, this is your brake light switch, verify power to it, then apply brake pedal and verify power is coming out.

2007 Chevy Silverado Center brake light works but back ones dont

There is a probable bad wiring connection in problem one and three.
#2 Possible water leak causing bulb break. Try wd40 in socket. you need a wiring diagam and cheap voltmeter if you want do it yourself.

Lots of brake dust , how do I get rid of it?

Change your brake pads to a different material. Ceramics are usually better for less dust.
