Good evening to you and welcome to fixya
before spending money go and unhook the battery cables and let set for about 2-3 minutes then rehook and start and see if problem goes away and then comes back. if problem comes back or still exist then check the wires for signal and ohm resistance that may be abnormal. check this out and lt me know if i can help you anymore.

Check the CO/Temp sensor in the exhaust manifold. It may tell the ECU that the engine is hot when it is cold or cold when hot, getting the mixture wrong.

Engen problem and missing

Sir, your question is not very clear, but I will still try to post a solution here. Engine missing could be due to any problem in fuel system, ignition system, engine or ECM as well.

LOW ENGINE IDLE SPEED (Poor idling):
-Throttle body (do the cleaning and idle speed learning)
-A /C signal circuit
-Fuel pump control circuit
-Fuel pump
-Intake system
-P C V valve (clogged or open) and hose

ROUGH IDLING:
-Cylinder Compression
-Ignition system (Igniters, spark plugs, wiring harness)
-Spark plug fouled, gap too wide or too short. (1.00-1.1 mm)
-Fuel injector circuit
-E C M power source circuit
-Fuel pump control circuit
-Fuel pump (required pressure 44 psi - 49 psi)
-Throttle body (cleaning)
-Intake system
-P C V valve and hose
-Air fuel ratio sensor
-Heated oxygen s ens or
-Mass air flow meter
-Idle hunting
-Throttle body
-Intake system
-P C V valve and hose
-Air fuel ratio sensor
-Mass air flow meter

HESITATION/ POOR ACCELERATION:
-Fuel pump control circuit
-Fuel pump
-Spark plug
-Ignition system
-Fuel injector circuit
-E C M power source circuit
-Mass air flow meter
-Throttle body (do cleaning)
-Intake system
-Valve timing
-Cylinder Compression

Rough idling/loping at idle it otherwise runs fine off idle.

1. Vacuum leakage Check throttle body and intake manifold for tightness. check all vacuum hoses.
2. Faulty fuel or pump or electrical.
3. Plugged PVC valve.
4. Air filter clogged
5. Leaking head gasket.
6. Camshaft lobs worn.
All of these porblems can cause lopes or erratic idle.

I have a 1990 Jaguar Sovereign, 98,000 miles. The problem I'm having is the engine starts and runs, but it lopes at idle and runs rough, seems to be running too rich. I was getting fault codes 44, 37,...

I would change the air filter and clean the fine mesh covering the air flow control unit.
Make sure the connections are good as the sensor screen is tied to the O2 sensor. A new O2 sensor and dirty screen would give you poor fuel burning as the air fuel mix would be bad, and the O2 sensor would read the need for more fuel.......poor economy and running rough as it would not be clean burning.

change plug and wire if its been a while most cars have 90000 miles platinum plugs in them.but the wires wear before plugs.so change plugs and wires.+clean fuel injectors .change fuel filter and air filter.if car still run rough your idling to low.have idling check .

Completed tune up, drove for 2 blocks, engine shut down

Just having fuel is not enough on this engine, here are the spec's. Even 1 psi out of spec can cause a no start.

Fuel Pressure
Pressure 1 (PSI) Pressure 2 (PSI) Pressure 3 (PSI) Range Note Range Note Range Note 60.0 - 66.0 Y131 50.0 - 63.0 Y132 66.0 Y133 Y131: System pressure with ignition on (PSI).
Y132: System pressure while idling (PSI).
Y133: Fuel pump pressure (PSI) with return line briefly restricted.
