You will need to look up the temperature sensing switches. There will be some for the computer, some for any guages on your dash, and 1 or 2 for your fans. Go to the dealers parts counter, and ask for a parts breakdown. If they are nice they will print off a detailed picture of the sensors. Most likely a bad sensing switch, or a shorted contact.

I have a 2006 chevy silverado 5.3L..When in idle oil pressure gauge goes to 80 and when i accelerate ail pressure goes to zero ...is it the oil sending unit?

It could be the sending unit. If the truck is low on oil it will cause something similar. Be sure the oil level is topped up. The only way to be sure it so measure the actual oil pressure at the engine with a proper gauge..

Is the oil gauge in a 2006 1500 4 x 4 silverado suppose to at 80 all the time?

80 PSI is within operating range, but all the time would suggest that it stays there even after you turn your engine off and does not increase incrementally when engine is first turned on. If that is the case you have a faulty oil pressure sending unit or a stuck gauge.

My oil pressure guage spiked to 80 on my 06 Chevy Silverado 1500 why did this happen and how do I fix it?

it is either the oil sender or the cluster gone out. i have seen both with the factory scan tool you can do a gauge sweep test to see if gauges are functioning correctly. the oil sender would be the cheapest thing to try. it is located at back of engine in valley by firewall

All you have to do is replace your oil pressure sending unit. It`s in the rear of the motor by the left head. This is the drivers side. You need a special socket to remove the sending unit.Good luck.
