Question about 1985 Pontiac Firebird

1 Answer

1985 FIrebird SE 2.8 six cylinder, missing AC, could this stop the electric fan from coming on? I have replaced fan sensor and relay, still no fan. It works hooked up to the battery, but not when it is hooked up correctly. I have checked the wires,ok. The sensor was located on the left front side of the intake. Also, what is the sensor next to it? It is larger and has two wires.

The fuses are good, but how do you jump out the relay?

I have replaced the sensor, relay, and I have checked the fan and it works. So, how do you jump the relay? And what if it works, or what if it doesn't? Thanks, Robert

1999 potiac bonnivile fan only works when ac is on

there should be 2 relay ,1 that is triggered by a/c on and then there is 1 that is controled by temp sensor. so if the electric fan comes on when you turn on the a/c obviusly that one is good. i think the other relay is under the hood at the power distribution box. here is a cheap trick. when you find the coolant fan relay take the a/c relay and put it in its place and put the coolant fan relay in the a/c relay spot. turn on the a/c and see if the fan still comes on

Coolant fan

3 things to check, 1st, temp switch (controls turning fan on and off according to eng. temp, 2. cooling fan control, tells switch when to turn on and off, and 3. fan motor. Check it to make sure it isn't shot.

Electric fan will not work when at operating temp. Jumped relay and got fan to work. Fan and relay work for sure. Problem is finding the location of the sensor so it can be changed.

The fans don't not come on until 215-225 degrees or unless the ac is on and working. The sensor should be on the intake manifold. See a gm dealer parts dept. for location for which engine you have.

High Idle 2

I would look at the codes,, jumper the two upper connector holes in the diagnostic link with a paperclip,, turn the key on, and read the blinks of the check engine light,, first will come 3 12 codes then any error codes. If you get a repair manual for that vehicle it will tell you how to perform these tests.

hello check engine light came on first things first check fuse for cooling fan second see if the fan relay checks out okay if so the culpret most likely your temp sensor is out of range the reason for the fan with ac this has a seperate fan relay good luck
