How to replace fuel pump on 2002 impala

Does this job require removal of the gas tank or is there an access panel in the trunk? I looked back there and I do see some sort of removable panel.

I did this myself, it took a couple hours. The pump unit cost about $100 on ebay and it was new and works fine. Be sure to relieve the fuel pressure before hand. Even after doing that you'll need a rag handy to catch fuel from the pump itself. I took out the back seat to get easy access. Just take your time and you should be OK. It did take some time to get the metal ring to completely seat with the new pump in there.

My 2002 Impala has the panel in the trunk. I took the panel off and the fuel pump is accessible. I will probably attempt to replace the fuel pump myself since the fuel gauge does not work anymore and the dealership indicated that the problem was the fuel level float connected to the fuel pump.

Does anyone know if there is anything special I need to do prior to replacing the fuel pump, such as draining the fuel, etc...? I was planning to at least run the car until I was near empty.

FYI, here is a link to a set of videos about replacing fuel pumps. It's a set of 13 short video clips.

Check the panel first, if no fuel pump below then you have to remove the tank.

Access panel in the trunk for fuel pump on 2005 impala?

Not sure if there is one. My '05 Buick Century does not have an access panel. Pull back the carpet in the trunk and look for a round or oval panel with screws. It would be right over the top of the fuel tank, right over where the pump module sits in the tank-where the fuel lines come out of the tank-that is where the module is.
If there is no access panel, it is a bit harder to change out the pump. You have to remove the gas tank, and pull it from under the vehicle. It was not that difficult on my Century-I did it on my driveway. Look at a repair manual for the complete procedure.

How long would it take the average person to install a fuel pump in a 2002 chevy impala that has a trunk pocket fuel compartment and how long to install fuel pump if you dont have the easier access trunk...

If you have a panel to open for access to the pump you should be done in about an hour as there is not much to remove and attach for the Fuel Pump as electric is one connector and the port for fuel. If you have to remove the Fuel tank that depends on what you have available for tools and technical prowess. If you don't have at least a Floor Jack get one and an ATV/Motorcycle Jack if you have a friend who uses one or have your own is better. Use the Jack to support the Fuel Tank as you remove the Fasteners from the tank and uncouple the Wiring Harness from the Tank. From there you can lower it, service the pump, and put the whole thing right back in. At this point make sure you clean all the ground connections and if you don't have some purchase a container of "Anti-Seize" Copper which will improved conductivity and seal the connections from moisture contamination.

My gas gas is out of wack sometimes it says full when it is almost empty what do I need to do to fix it

Usually the fuel level indicater is part of the sending unit(fuel pump) it probably will require replacement of the fuel pump to do this you drop the fuel tank, some vehicles have a access panel in the trunk or under the rear seats that make replacing the fuel pump easer because it doesn't require removal of the tank

How do I change a fuel pump on a 1999 buick regal

The fuel pump is in the gas tank. more than likely you have to drop the tank to remove/replace the pump. I would contact you local dealers service dept. as some of those cars had an access panel under the back seat to access the pump without having to remove the tank.

If you have an access panel, it should be an hour or less job with common hand tools.

Fuel pump location

HI. This assembly is modular and it is located inside the fuel tank. It will be required to lower the fuel tank in order to access the modular pump assembly. Here is a diagram that will help you understand the modular assembly.

Where is the fuel pump for a 1989 honda accord located?

The fuel pump is mounted in the gas tank. If my memory serves me correctly, there should be an access panel under the rear seat bottom. If not accessable that way, you'll need to remove the gas tank.

I have a lexus ls400 and the fuel gauge stop working... at first the niddle would go full and stay there. then on other days it would read empty.

The sending unit located in the gas tank must be replaced on most of these cars you can gain access to it by removing the back seat revealing an access cover allowing you to get to the sending unit remove retaining screws or locking ring and replace. You probably should be grounded and have a Haynse repair manual handy to walk you through this job it's not the easiest job but not to hard either unless the gas tank must be dropped down to access the sending unit if that's the case have a shop do the job that job is pretty tough.
