The belt either has lost its tension as a result of ware and tare or, the AC bearings are going bad. I suspect the belt is bad and you will have to change it.

It sounds like you will have to replace the serpentine belt and try autozone.com to see if they have your car listed for diagrams pictures and step by step instructions if your car is not listed then try your local library they have all the car manuals and even copy them for you

  • Anonymous Jul 29, 2011

IT ALL DEPENDS. SERPENTINE BELT IS SUGGESTED THAT IT BE REPLACE AT 90,000 MILES. READ SOMEWHERES THAT A GUY DID NOT REPLACE IT UNTIL 120,000 MILES. THE BELT TENSIONER HAS BEARINGS ON IT. YOU MIGHT HAVE TO REPLACE THE BELT TENSIONER. YOU DO NOT SAY HOW MANY MILES YOU HAVE ON YOUR VEHICLE. WHEN YOU REPLACE THE BELT, CHECK THE A/C BEARING BY TURNING THE PULLEY. IF IT IS HARD TO TURN, BEARING IS BAD ....SAME THING GOES FOR THE BELT TENSIONER PULLEY.

How do you stop a belt from squealing when you crank the engine? It has a new belt less than 50k and self-adjusting tensioner. I was told not to spray anything on it...

50k isn't new but also isn't that high a milage , how old is the belt ,as age as well as mileage are the factors when replacing belts , chalk dust or french chalk , which are the same thing , thrown onto the belt just as starting should stop the squeal , the squeal is caused by the inner side of belt that runs around the pulleys becomes shiney and cant grip as well as it used to

My Echo makes a squealing noise randomly when driving & airconditioner is turned off?

Your serpentine belts tension is loose or the belt is going hard. Check the tension on the tensioner pulley and condition of belt.
The belt is slipping on your accessory pulleys when a load is placed on them such as power steering, alternator and clutch fan.

04 toyota tacoma squeals on left side of engine compartment during acceleration only, what is causing this noise???.

Could be your belt is stretched and needs to be replaced, can't tighten cause it's done by tensioner. Here's a link to the belt replacement guide. To check out noise, open hood, stand at engine, have someone start, listen for noise, have person rev up engine and you find where noise is coming from. Also check tensioner.

When starting our 2005 Toyota Sienna with the air conditioner on the belts squeal, how do I fix this problem? How difficult is it to change the belt?

There should be an idler pulley nearby to your aircon compressor, with an adjusting bolt to tighten your belt. If the belt is tight and still squeals, there are allsorts of weird and wonderfull things that are applied to them to stop squealing. Vaseline won't hurt the rubber but it will stop the squealing...hope this helps.

When I turn on my 2004 toyota highlander air conditioner the fan on the motor sounds like it is running, where it has never done this before. what could be the cause?

When you turn on the AC pop the hood. If it has an electric cooling fan or an electric fan infront of the radiator and condensor then its normal for it to come on. Without air flowing through the core the AC will not blow cold air. You just may not have noticed it before, or the fan is wearing down and producing a bit more noise than before.

Help! Air conditioner causes squeal soon after turned on

The ac is belt driven, If one of the belts are loose it will make a squealing noise. Turning on the air puts more strain on the belts. If this is the case all you would have to do is tighten the belt or belts. This would probably take a service tech just a few minutes. Probably under $100.00 dollars..........

Squealing NOISE possibly from fan belt

If the noise going away every time u turning off the ac it's probably your ac compressor belt.however i will suggest to take some vaseline and rub it all over the exposed parts of your drive belt.
