The sensor in the differential is for the ABS. Did you replace the sensor for the speedometer in the end of the transmission?
And is the check engine light on ?

How many speed sensors does a 1998 dodhe durango 5.2 4x4 have??

i have a 98 durango 5.9 4x4 ive issues with the abs and brake light popping up off and on it is now happening more frequently especially when its raining, recently i replaced my abs module, calipers, pads, brake hoses and rotors the light discontinued popping up for about a week or so but its at it again and doesnt want to go away. before i replaced rotors brakes etc. i had an issue with my front passenger wheel rolling a little bit of white smoke out it heated up the rotors and everything else pretty good i think it may have caused the abs wheel speed sensor to start malifunctioning, i would appreciate any opinions or in put if possible

98 dodge ram 1500 4x4 5.9L The engine light is on, the antilock brakesystem light is on. speedometer and odometer do not work. The brake light is also on but the truck still stops just fine. im guessing...

Hi, Autozone will scan your vehicle for free 1997 and newer vehicles. Your brake fluid being low will also make the brake light go on. Ihope this helped you out. Good luck, .....MIKE-

ABS problem

It sounds like the computer is receiving an erratic signal from one of the wheel speed sensors. This problem is quite common when a wheel speed sensor is not quite dead yet but is on the way out.

If the ABS light is on the problem should be easily diagnosed with an ABS capable scan tool.

Speedometer won't work

IT SOUNDS LIKE YOU HAVE BROKEN WIRE LEADING TO SPEED SENSOR IN REAR DIFF..CHECK FOR ANY SPOTS IN HARNESS WHERE IT LOOKS OUT OF PLACE OR RUBBING ON SOMETHING..ALSO CHECK FOR SPREAD CONNECTIONS IN PLUG AT SENSOR..CHECK ALL FUSES RELATED TO ABS SYSTEM IN UNDERHOOD FUSE/RELAY CENTER

I have a 1998 Dodge Dakota 3.9L V6 with a 5 spd. manual transmission. The Speedometer quit working. The oil pressure gauge and stuff works but the speedo does not. Could this be a speed sensor problem?

yes the speed sensor on the top of the diferencial controls the speedometer, milage, and the ABS breaking system. that light should be on as well, I had the same problem for about a year until I got myself a diagnostic computer, plugged it in and there I got all my codes.
