Well i had the same problem everyone told me the clutches in the rearend were sticking making it stick in positive traction (only your passanger side rear wheel pulls unless you start spinning then a type of clutch engages the other side so you have traction then when you stop spinning it disengages it should never be engaged if your on pavment) now you can do what i did listen to everyone when they tell you its normal or you can take it to someone with experience now and save yourself some money cause it will start popping then it will get some viberation then next it will break the clutches and when that happens you will have to replace the pinion, ring, and the spider gears as well as the clutches.make sure you have pleanty oil in rearend if you dont add the limited slip conditioner it might free clutches up but if i had it to do over id put it in the shop or stop driving it before i broke something hope this helped

This is normal. When in 4x4 and turning sharp and slow,it will hop or jump and in 2 wheel drive it stops. If it does it in 2 wheel drive when turning sharp and slow, its because you have a locking(posi)rearend. if you have any howling or grinding noises in your drivetrain, bring it to garage and have it checked over.Hope this helps.John.

4x4 quit working

Jack up the rear wheels and put it on jack stands. Have someone get in it and put it in 4wd and drive. Release the brake. Rear wheels are spinning only right. Don't get under it but look under it and see if the front driveshaft is spinning. If the shaft is spinning but the wheels aren't it is likely a bad front axle actuator. If the front shaft isn't spinning it is a transfercase problem.

I have a '99 Chevy Silverado 1500 4x4. It has a bad vibration in the front-end. I've changed all U-joints and have rotated the tires, but it still has a bad vibration. Does anybody have an idea what the...

It sounds like you may have lost a weight on one of the tires that balaces it. If so and if you rotated the tires to the rear and rear to front then the vibration would come from the rear. If you only switched the two front tire with each other it would still be in the front. I would start by having the two front tires re-balanced and see what happens. if this doesn't work then it may be a wheel berring going out on you. Keep me informed, Raz

I need to know what weight gear oil to use in the rear differental for a 99 chevy silverado 1500 Z71 4x4

There should be a tag on the rear that tells you the weight. It is probably sythetic oil. If there is no tag, call any Chevy dealer, ask for service dept. and they will tell you.
