Question about 1995 Honda Prelude

4 Answers

1995 Honda prelude, first it would have proublems starting after setting in the parking lot on a hot day, wait a little while and it would start. Winter came along and proublem stoped. And then, I was driving one cool night and the seamed to spit and sputter violetly for about 100 yards, smoothed out and ran fine for about month. One night, backed out of the drive way and it did the same thing and then just died. Changed the main reley and the distributor, it will not start. When you turn the key over and just before the starter ingauges the dash lights use to come on, but no lights. Any suggestion would be deeplly appreciated

Hello There

There are number of things to consider.

  1. The warm start problem etc was related to your fuel pump which was exhasibated by dirty injectors and other service parts which come with age and use.
  2. You have no lights etc at the moment as the battery needs charging. As you can't start the car you will need to remove the battery and get it slow charged over night using an electrical car battery charger.
  3. The solution to your problem I suggest is a new fuel pump, but you can make sure buy checking to see if there is fuel comming to the engine by checking one of the fuel lines, if you find doing this too comlicated than any mechanic should be able to do this for you within 15 minutes.
Hope this helps.

Check out the fuel pump and clean the fuel filters.also check the spark plugs.check out the starter. Check all of the battery terminals and cables and check the wires on the starter/selonoid, start from the battery and follow the cable out and check all conections , clean and tighten them and if it still does it the starter/selonoid is bad and needs replacement

This sounds like a classic ignition module problem, this year of Honda is famous for them, also chage the distributor stator, this will take care of the issue.

U may have a faulty "brake lamp switch" normally located under your brake pedal, that's probably the cause of brake lights staying on. Check your fuses,,could be blown

Where is the main relay
located on the Accord?
Why doesn't my Honda or Acura start sometimes? The main relay is famous for stranding people for a few minutes usually in a parking lot in hot weather. The problem is so common that it's been coined the "petrol station fuel relay" from fuel station attendants. The technical name for the main relay is PGM-EFI Main Relay Assembly. PGM stands for programmed, EFI stands for Electronic Fuel Injection

My 1995 honda preludes emergency brake doenst work, when you pull it up it comes up easy and the break light does come on, also my ABS light is on and wont turn off

The parking brake problem could be rear brakes out of adjustment, a broken parking brake cable, or a parking brake cable in need of adjustment.

The ABS light mosy likely has nothing to do with your parking brake problem and will have to be diagnosed by first gathering the ABS fault codes from the ABS computer.

Sounds like it could be a Main Relay (with controls the fuel pump & others). Look it up - on the '92 models its under the dash near the steering column.

1993 honda accord wont start on hot days after sitting for hours

Ussually with the Preludes the main relay for the fuel pump needs to be replaced. One that i havent seen posted yet is the 'Coolant tempature switch' near the distributor some times becomes faulty. Cheap at local auto parts dealer.
