Question about 1988 Lincoln Town Car

1 Answer

I went to change the solenoid on my 88 lincoln and I turned a bolt and the whole this disinegrated, now I don't know if all the yellow wires go on the one post of the new one and the red on the other or if any of the yellow go with the positive or what. And to top it off I shut my tools in the trunk and don't have the key, and of course it's power so I can't get in. I'm such a moron.

The wire going to the starter follow it down towards passenger fender down this cable depending on the solenoid is either bottom terminal or if solenoid bolts different it is on the right hand side if you are facing the solenoidThe skinney red wire goes to the S marked on the solenoid FOLLOW WIRE COMING FROM BATTERY THIS GOES ON TOP ECT. AS BEFORE ALL OTHER WIRES THAT DO NOT GO TO THE STARTER WILL GO WERE THE BATTERY CABLE GOES .

My 92 lincoln town car will not start i have replaced the starter, the neutral safety switch and the battery but when i turn key nothing happens but can jump starter and will crank

Yes there is a starter relay in the wiring diagram.
The yellow and lite blue wire goes from the starter solenoid to the relay. There is a yellow wire from the relay to a 30amp fuse. The key switch powers thru the neutral safety switch and then powers the relay on.

1993 lincoln Town Car wont start

On a car that old, I would suspect a corroded fusible
link, in the wiring harness

I don't have have referrence material to help you
locate those items.

You still have to start buy checking the battery & it's cables
No power to anything at all, your working your way from
the battery to fusible links & on to fuses,to see what you do have

Really need a wiring diagram,if your into that type of understanding
of electrical

Digital dash does not work properly, gauge just flash and speedometer goes up to 20mph.

The digital speedometer went out in my 88 continental as well.. I had to go to a junk yard to find a whole other cluster.. 1 year later, it doesn't work again. (-_-) I could afford to put a new speedometer in, its just hard as hell to find one for the 88.
