1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera S 6 Cyl 3300 Speed Problem

I just changed the Spark plugs, wires, and the fuel filter on my 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera S and when the car accelerates to around 75-80 mph the check engine light comes on and the car won't accelerate past 70 (ie. it will get to 75-80 mph and starts to have problems so it slows down to around 65-70 mph and won't go past that even if I give it more gas). I stopped the car and let it run idle to listen to it and I heard a loud pop noise coming from around the coil packs. When I put my ear close to the coil packs I think I hear the noise coming from somwhere near the coil packs but not the coil packs themselves. It might be the top coil pack but I'm not 100%. Any thoughts or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Such hesitation could be from old, worn spark plugs, old, worn plug wires, a dirty air filter, a dirty fuel filter. (Is your check engine light on when running? If so, look for the trouble codes.) Could be a sensor too, I think maybe the mass air flow sensor should be checked. Another sensor for this could be the throttle position sensor. If everything checks out so far, you should have the fuel pressure tested and checked. Just possibly the fuel pump needs changing. Testing the pressure will tell you.
All I can think of so far, enough to keep you busy checking?

1988 cutlass ciera boggs down when i accelerate

Hello! You have symptoms that point to incorrect fuel pressure.
First have the fuel pressure tested as follows; #1...engine running at idle: 13- 20 psi. #2...key on engine off: 23-30 psi. If pressure is incorrect change the fuel pump.

Does the engine "surge" at idle? If so, check the "fuel injection pressure regulator idle air control valve". Apply a vacuum to it; If fuel flows it is not the problem.

Car forces me to slow down

I doubt it is a speed sensor. It is in the transmission near the passenger side cv axle. Have you scanned it for codes? You can do it with a paperclip.

When my 1993 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera runs for awhile I cannot restart the car until it cools. Any suggestions on what it may be?

Fatcat,You didnt mention what engine you have.
When the no start occurs, try holding the gas pedal all the way to the floor, hold it there and try starting the car.
If it still does not attempt to start, disconnect (1) spark plug wire at the coil and have someone try to start the car, you should see and here a "spark" jump and snap.
If spark is present, air inlet to throttle body or carburetor and check for presence of fuel.
Let me know what you find.
