Question about 1997 Nissan.5 Altima

1 Answer

Wiper Linkage There was some snow and ice on my windshield, I turned the wipers on and my driver's side wiper stopped working. The passenger side worked no problem. So, I took apart the wiper area and found that the linkage to the driver's side wiper had come off. Do you just push it back on or does it screw back on somehow? So, I just pushed it back on, but everything back and now when I turn on the wipers they seem like they're stuck and trying to move. What should I do now? Should I try to retighten everything? I have the same problem; the drivers side quit. How do I get into the linkage? Must the plastic cover all come off? Do the wiper arms pull straight off after removing the nut? 1997 Altima

The first thing to check is a 13mm nut that holds the wiper arm in place.See if you can move the wiper arm freely back and forth. There is a nut at the base of that wiper arm,Lift up a cover that is hiding the nut. If it comes loose from being froze from ice or snow. Put the wiper in its rest position and tighten the nut back up.

You will need to find where in the linkage the problem is. I would start taking it apart to see what is and what isn't working correctly. Autozone website has free repair manuals available online.

2009 Touareg passenger side windshield wiper arm does not move but driver side does

sounds like the connecting rod between both wiper arms either broke or one of the keepers popped off under the connector for that arm..since the wiper system IS NOT designed to wisk snow off the window once accumulated, this can an does happen.. even seen motors get burned out doing this..cleaning the window first will save this issue and the equiptment. need to acess this arm<take off the vented peice below the windshield and everything should be visible there..repost findings

The driver's side windshield paper does not function, the passenger's side works?

Hello: lift/remove cover from the lower end of the w/w arm (toward bottom of windshield) there should be a 13mm nut that attaches the arm to the transmission shaft. Use a 13mm box end and see if the nut is tight. If not tight position the arm in the proper position and tighten nut, re-install nut cover.

Passenger wiper blade not always working. was frozen when turned wipers on. what do I have to take apart to work on

there should be a plastic cover over the lower part of the wiper arm where it attatches to the wiper post. Under that cover there will be a 15 or 13 mm nut. Tighten up the nut and the wiper should again work with the drivers side.

If this happens to many times the splines in the wiper arm will wear out and the arm will need to be replaced. You can avoid this by clearing your windshield of snow and ice before turning on the wipers.

Windshield wiper on car iced up during snow/driving could not see

You can usually avoid that by using a good quality winter mix washer fluid that resists freezing, making sure the wipers are cleared of ice before beginning the drive and using the defroster to keep the windshield warm. In extreme conditions you just need to pull over and manually clean the ice off by hand.(only do that where it's safe). There are also specially designed wiper blades that will also help a bit.

Remove the wiper arm and check the serrated hub to see if it sheared a pin holding it to the shaft. If it is ok, then you may have a broken/loose part in the linkage. Good luck!

Windshield wiper

Check to see if the wiper motor moves the passenger side. If so, You may need to tighten the nut that connects the arm to the motor. Mine was stripped out because or snow & ice. So, I went to home depot and found a lock washer to fit.
