You are not real clear on the question. Do you already have a trailer light hookup and need to replace it? If so, just get a new one and attach it the same way the old one was installed. I have seen new hookups fail to work properly due to lighting module requirements so when replacing, check with a dealer to see what works on your vehicle.

you need to find out from a dealer where the attachment points are for the new harness. I would also see if they offer a harness specifically made for the tow package offered for your vehicle. In not using a "universal" harness, you stand a better chance of not having the problems I mentioned before.

best book is likely the actual jeep service manual (expensive) The source I used for many years is made by Chilton. However, you will likely need two volumes one for electrical and one for mechanical.
One thing to remember...there is no substitute for experience. No book can give you that. The reason that I recommended getting the add on harness is that jeep offers a tow package therefore it is likely their harness will not cause problems with their electrical system. Aside from electrical you will need to add a trans cooler to prevent engine/trans overheat.

How do i install a type lll trailer hitch considering the plastic pan that is part of the rear bumper?

suggest you try looking at u-haul for a drop hitch that will solve your rear bumper issue.they also do installation world wide if needed and they are the top experts in the hitch industry.i recommend them all the time.i can't say enough about how great those guys are about hitch problem solving.they sell hitches all over the world as well as rent moving trucks.they can still sell you the hitch that you need without installing it themselves, but unless you're a pro. i suggest that you have it done professionally. your life is at risk greatly when towing with a type3 hitch. hope this helps and thank you for choosing

I have an 03 Toyota Sequoia, 4.7L V8, factory installed hitch receiver and wiring. The manual says it has a towing capacity of 6500 lbs GVWR. I have been towing a popup trailer weighing 3000 pounds with no...

I think the tongue weight rating on the stock hitch is 600 lbs, so you are over that. You probably want to level out truck to handle better when towing, so the best way is to get air bag helper that raises the back end.

Does a 1994 buick centry come with a hitch and if not what is every thing that i need for a hitch

No it's doesn't come with a hitch. To put one on you'll need to know what capacity hitch you need, towing weight of what is to be towed. A wiring harness to connect to the vehicle's brake lights, taillights and turn signals. U-Haul sells and installs hitches.

Electric Brake Harness

Do you know it the Excursion came with a factory towing package option when new? If it did, it's probably located under the vehicle at the rear where the trailer hitch is (or would be installed). countrycurt0

Hitch installation w/electrical wiring for brake

Disconnect all that trailer connector mess and start over. Someone messed up. Do you have a 6- or 7- way RV connector, a 4- or 5-way flat (U-Haul) connector, or what? Was an electric brake box installed under the dashboard for trailer electric brakes?

Better yet, sell me your Jeep cheap, it probably can't be fixed, and it's worthless.

Hitch w/electrical wiring brakes

Disconnect all the hitch wiring and test for ability to crank. Someone did the hitch hookup incorrectly, or damaged other wiring hooking it up.
