Question about 2006 Ford Ranger

1 Answer

Running lean -

When exelerating up to 40 miles per hour on a cold engine, you go to give it gas and the truck will not exelerate, feels like its in neutral and the truck just coasts. Engine does not die. Pull over to the side, turn the truck off and then back on again the truck does fine. Only on a cold engine it seems to do this. Check engine light is one took to own mechanic and they could not pin point the exact location of problem, did say its show running lean. took to dealership they couldn't pin point problem either but the following codes were detected. PO174, PO300, PO305, P0306. they suggested we do a major tune up with new ignition coil and wires, and that there may be other concerns. We don't have alot of money to put into this truck and don't want to spend money where its not needed. Please Help!

Nascarschool -- Thats exactly what I suggested my husband to do. Sounds good to me! I just want to get the engine light to shut off, so we can get rid of it. Thats my idea anyway...

hi from uk have read the symptoms you describe especially this fault only occures when engine cold ok when warmed up ? may i suggest a couple of diy checks you can do ? there is a air intake temperature sensor on intake after filter check disconnect and clean with wd or ignition sealer/cleaner the plug on wires then refit? it may be this or actual sensor at fault ? next there is also a coolant temp sensor screwed into engine somewhere (not the temp sender unit that works dash guage ) carry out same check/clean as above ? if either of these sensors act up you will have symptom as you have ? however when you stop for a couple of mins ? the engine heat will surge under hood and when restart all ok as coolant and air intake are warmed up assume runs ok rest of day ?? assume the temp guage is rising ok ? meaning the thermostat is working ? hope this helps as both sensors send signal to ecu as regards to their function ?

When driving, if I go into a right curve and exelerate i feel a strong vibration, but only if i am exelerating. If I am costing around the curve it's just fine. Please let me know what you think. Thanks...

Are you getting a humming or grinding noise with it as well? This may be a wheel bearing issue causing the vibration which will be worse under accleration.

Engin light blinks 15 times. seems light engin is not getting gas when exelerating.

hi. Begin by changing the fuel filter. Also pour a bottle of a fuel additive called seafoam into your tank. This product is excellent and multipurpose. It will dry up water, and clean your fuel system. Once you pour it in drive for about 5 miles and your problem should be solved. If not, have your fuel pump checked. J.

Truck has 305 motor fuel injected idles fine when in drive barely exelerating it spits and sputers and sometimes dies but when i get into the exelerator a litle bit it doesnt do it

if it is an HEI distributor remove the cap and rotor there is a module under the rotor take out the two quarter inch screws and unplug it take it to your local parts store and have it checked that is the module that controls the injection rate,if it is not HEI then do an injector cleaning, also try running a tank full of high octane gas through it the injectors sound like they have gunk built up in them, hope this gives you a place to start

Olds cutlass 1994 transmission will go in first then slips.

Transmission shift governor is at fault i think,,,you could try checking the fluid levels,,,and then disconnect the battery for half an hour,,,(resett the ecm) and then see what happens.

Will not turn more than 3000 rpm

You need to check for a possible defective fuel pump or a restricted catalytic converter (excessive exhaust back pressure)
