Hi, before the pump it is a loose connection or maybe a pin hole in the pipe, check all the connections and pipes for seepage, after the pump it will be a leak, i knowit sounds the same but after the pump the fuel is under pressure. It would appear that your system drawing air rather than forcing air in. daveg

Check the fuel lines, fuel filter, what is the mileage? If it is high than it might a sign of injector pump or injectors.

Hey bro, your diesel pump might be on the way out but here are some things to check and do and see if they help.

Replace the hoses going from the pump to the diesel filter with new ones.

Use fuel injector type clamps, NOT gear clamps they don't tighten enough to stop air not getting in.

Change the diesel filter, and make sure the drain on the bottom of it, if it has one which most do, is nice and tight.

Air bubbles in the injection lines are usually a sign of a weakening injection pump but I ran mine like that for a long time, the air works it's way through. Are you leaking any diesel? Maybe check the returns to the tank. Cheers bro.

My 1993 vw golf, diesel has been sitting for 3 1/2 yrs. what precautions beside changing the oil and putting some conditioner in the fuel should I take before attempting to get it running again?

hi, if it has been sitting for that long then the chances are the fuel has gone totally flat and wont even fire the engine up so this would need draining, change the fuel filter also.
When you fill the tank with new fuel make sure you use a good fuel additive that will clean all the fuel line out etc this will ensure that any grime has been cleaned out.

After doing this you could give it a try and see if it starts if it dont then check the plugs for signs of corrosion and change if needed.

Let me know how you get on or if you need further assistance ok
