I would start by having the timing checked that could be the problem, if the timing is good it could be a fouled out spark plug, you can try changing the spark plug wires and spark plugs that may help. It may be a good idea to have your car tuned up. Its also always a good idea to make sure you have a clean air filter.

What is the main course of the engine to stop on its own while driving ?

The backfiring can occur because the car isn't shut off properly. Remember when we were kids and we would shut off, coast in gear and then restart and pop the accumulated gases? That said I think your anti-jack may be switching randomly and shutting you down. I'd start there.

the timing may be off and needs adjusting or there could be an ignition component like bad plug wire, distributor cap or its not getting enough fuel running lean.

The cheapest option would be to check the salvage yards and try and change the parts yourself, get back if you find them and I will email instructions part by part. Chris

if it wont hold an idle then one or more of the cylinders are probably too low or high in compression and if it's backfireing then the ignition timming could be off. I would take a compressin test of all cylenders and if they are all in range I would hook up a timming light to se if the timming is out

Gear shift

Hi Monica...

If you have parked on a hill or rise and have place the car in park before appling the parking brake the pin for park is now stuck...
You will need someone to push the car just an inch to repease the parking pin... push uphill... that will releave the pressure on the parking pin...
Remember to always apply the parking brake first in neutral and make sure the car does not move before placing in park...
Hope this is helpful...
