The only way to remove a clock spring assembly is to remove the steering wheel. Of course, if your vehicle has an airbag system (SRS) you'll need to unscrew it from the back and disconnect that first. If you don't have a steering wheel puller, you're going to need one, as this will make the job a LOT easier! You'll be able to borrow one from a "Loan a Tool" program such as at Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts. Next, make a "timing mark" on the shaft and the inside of the steering wheel so that it's assembled and centered the same as when you removed it. Start with the steering wheel in the centered position when you make your timing mark for better ease of the operation. Once the steering wheel is removed, disconnection and replacement of the clock spring assembly is pretty self-explanatory. Just look for the attaching screws, remove them, and disconnect it from the harness. Use the new clock spring assembly as a good reference point.

changing the module will not remedy the problem unless it is programmed. most likely if the control module had failed the fault stored in the airbag module should be a coding fault. Take the vehicle to your local bmw dealership, pay them to diagnose it and see if it just needs to be programmed. In most areas bmw dealership are opened on saturday usually fairly late
