Question about Chevrolet S 10

1 Answer

I have a 1985 Cheverolet pick-up. I have a cluster of under dash guages that I installed about ten years ago. Last week I replaced them with new ones. After doing so, My rea tail lights will not cut off. They burn all the time even when the head lights are off. The only way I can get them to turn off is to disconnect the Battery +hot cable. Now, when I installed the guages the voltmeter is wired black to a ground and red wire to the fuse box at the radio fuse. The oil pressure and water temp are manual. But, all the lights are red wired together to one wire at the wiper fuse. The ampmeter guage is wired with the red wire to the +hot side of the battery and the black wire to the alternator. The ampmeter is the only thing wired to the battery. All the guages work properly, and their lights work ok. *** I did put in a on/off toggle switch on the hot wire for the guage lights going to the fuse box at the wiper. This is the only thing I did different from the first time I installed the guages 10 years ago. I even used the same type and brand of guages "SUNPRO". The toggle switch that is wired in the hot wire for the guage lights to the wiper fuse is mounted right beside the lights/guages on the metal brackets that the guages fit in that is mounted under the dash. THE ONLY THING I HAVE DONE DIFFERENT IS TO ADD THE TOGGLE SWITCH AND I WONDER IF THE METAL TO METAL GROUND OF THE SWITCH RING SCREWED TO HOLD THE TOGGLE SWITCH MAY BE CAUSING THE PROBLEM. ***** PLEASE HELP ASAP; I NEED TO DRIVE THE TRUCK.** P.S.--iN TRYING TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM I DID INSTALL A NEW TURN SINGLE MODULE AT THE PROPER PLACE IN THE FUSE BOX. I ALSO PUT IN A NEW BREAK LIGHT SWITCH IN BEHIND THE BRAKE PADDLE IS. ****WHEN I SAY ALL OF THE TAIL LIGHTS WILL NOT CUT OFF I MEAN ALL THREE-TAIL, BRAKE, AND SINGLE LIGHT IN THE REAR. **** bUT NOT THE REVERSE / BACK-UP LIGHT.

Sir,
It's probably the brake lights that are staying on, check again, if the brake lights are staying on the brake light switch needs to be replaced. The reason I believe it's the brake lights is that they will turn on even with the key off so make sure which lights are staying on.

Cluster guages and odometer out 1998 neon

I found my own answer on YouTube!
I spent more time on removing/replacing my cluster than the actual repair. I did note this question was asked 5 years ago, but for anyone else looking for a solution to this I hope this helps. It sure did for me!

In my case, simply removing and reseating the IPC/DIC fuse restored the gauges to full functionality.
