There is a speed sensor for the transmission inside the speedometer gauge.
if the speedometer cable is broken the hold light will blink. indicating a trans
malfunction code and the transmission will not work properly.
do not drive too long without a speedometer cable.

I have a 1997 mazda b2300 it is kicking a code of p0171. I would like to know which of the issues to check first. pcv, MAF, EGR, or the injectors. I am mechanically inclined but this one has me stumped....
Check for vacuum leaks. Especially the PCV line. If non are found, clean the MAF.
