No it shouldn't be too much harder then any other alternator. Has a serpertine belt so no tension to adjust. I'd say have at it.

That light comes on when the altenator is not producing enough voltage to run the truck and charge the batery. replace the altenator and happy motoring.

We have a 2003 ford expedition...Last year we put in a referbished alternater and the battery light came on and we took the alternater back 3 times and they tell us it is fine but now the battery is...

I don't know for sure if your vehicle has the voltage regulator built into the altenator, A parts store could tell you, But if your doesn't then the regulator is in the ECM (computer). Sorry to say but that can't be fixed, At least by a garage. You will have to replace the computer to solve your problem.

The battery light stays on, what does that mean?

have the very same problem. It means a couple possiblilites. It could be that the alternator, alternator diode or wiring is going out. If may also mean the battery is getting bad.

Check your battery terminal connections for good solid clean contact, and solid connections on your alternator and see if you can tell how old the battery is.
Most likely an alternator replacement will solve this issue... That's what I'm doing on mine today.

Not charging replaced altenator still not charging

Check the wire from the altenator to the battery. The large wire on the back of your altenator may have a fusible link in it. Check this wire with a multimeter set on continuity or resistance. If the ohms read low the wire is fine, if the ohms read high or infinite the wire/fuse link may be bad. There is also a main fuse in the box under hood to check>

Battery light stays on

start engine and get someone to hold rpm at 1500 then disconnect battery and if engine stops replace altenator ,if it keeps going then warning light control is U/S but to repair will nesitate removing the altenator and stripping it to change the brush /regulator unit and this can cost nearly as much as a recon altenator ,if it charges then leave it alone it could run for 50.000 miles or more like this

fit a new altenator and not a secondhand one from the scrappers also check the big block connector and fuses in front of the battery as in the uk they get wet and corrode ,this is where the altenator feed runs from ,try disconnecting the big wire and flashing it to see if it sparks ??quickest way to test for charging is to start car and then disconnect battery ..if it stops its not charging.quick load test for altenator speed up engine too 2000 rpm then disconnect battery and turn everything on if angine stops the altenator is not pushing out enough voltage....right anyone seen a nice mk4 zodiac executive for me ??
