Question about 1994 Pontiac Grand Prix

1 Answer

When I put my 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix in drive and step on the gas, I hear a short grinding noise and then my ABS and Emergency brake light come on on the dashboard and stay on while I'm driving. What's going on? Brake fluid level is fine.

Dont know if this will help... but my Windstar had the same issue with the lights... it was just the sensor screwing up or no longer attached properly. as far as the grinding goes... it could be the abs kicking in because of a faulty sensor, but poke your head in and take a look at the brake assembly and make sure your pads are ok and that everything is attached properly.

hope it helps:)

My low oil light stays on even after an oil change,as well as my ABS light and my low coolant light.

Sounds electrical (bad earth, chaffed wire, dirty fuse) but get the garage to put a oil pressure gauge on the car to make sure the oil pressure isn't low.
ABS light will mean brakes still work but not as efficiently so drive with care particularly in the wet.

replace the gas tank unit. 99 percent of the problems of this type require the tank unit to be replaced. it is a flaw with the GM cars, that GM refuses to have a recall on.

If its grinding then it could possibly be bad brakes or a bad bearing .And very likely be the reason for the lights lighting up on your dash panel.

sensor might be dirty, try removing them and cleaning them. Dont use sprays as they pose a threat more than they fix. Check tires to see if there is one that might be WAY lower than the rest. Or consider taking it to a shop if you cant find the rigth abs sensor.

Abs and traction control lights coming on

Its the abs sensor, if you encounter an ice patch or snow you won't even be able to stop because the pedal will will push back and make the rip grind noise. If you pull the ABS fuse out, you won't have ABS but you can stop and you won't have the grind noise and back pressure for now. Its safer to not have ABS when the sensor is faulty.
