Chevy 350 - oil pressure drops at high RPMs

I have a 1993 chevy van with a 350 V8, and the oil pressure drops at high RPMs, like going up a long hill. I went to a heavier oil and it helped a little bit, but I am workied that I will sieze it. It has over 100,000 miles, but doesn't burn oil.

Have you ever heard of oil pressure dropping at high RPMs?

Thanks, Bob

Good evening and welcome to fixya
sounds like you might have an issue with your oil pump losing pressure. if there are no rattles knock or clangs and the engine is not burning oil, make sure to check the dipstick for signs of a glittery metal substance that could be signs also of the engine having issues then the pump is probably your issue. there is a spring inside the pump that you can actually take out and change for a heavier spring that would actually stop this but it is easier to swap in a new oil pump. i do have one question for you though, is this correct an s-10 blazer with a 350 in it? if so has the engine been built at all or is it stock? once you swap the pump go back to running a 10w 40 oil the motor will run better on that and easier, yes your right though the heavier oil does help but if everything is good then it will hender power unless the engine is fairly well built. let me know and i will help you solve your issue. thnak you

hey dont feel bad i've done the same thing when asking a question and couldnt move it either, or at least figure it out. LOL and im on here helping you guys and gals out. i would start by changing the oil pump and pickup make sure the two are connected well and that the pan to pickup clearance is correct. when you drop the pan you might inspect the pickup tube closely to make sure that there is not alot of gunk on it hendering the flow of oil. good luck and let me know how it turns out.

Yes, my Chevy Suburban did the same thing. i had to re haul the internals. it was time. the rings were in bad condition. i had massive blow by. in your case, you could grab a few more miles by replacing the rings but, i would re haul if possible.

the best thing is to start the re haul before it dies completely.

Low oil pressure on 2001 Suburban

your oil sensor comes on at less than ten psi, you may have internal engine damage how many miles on engine, any gum up inside engine, you can try to put on a high pressure high volume melling oil pump to try to help for the time being, but you may need to have it torn and repaired.

I'm not getting any brake fluid on the right front brake cyliner,

R/f brake hose may be collapsed not letting fluid thru. Try loosening the steel line at the hose and see if you get it there. The bleeder screw may also be clogged.
