Check your water pump belt. The coolant isn't flowing under a low torque situation.

The trouble could be that the thermostat is not opening. Start with replacing the thermostat and seal.

are the upper and lower radiator hoses hot when car overheats? if so check for a clogged radiator or weak water pump. if one hose is hot and the other is cold or much cooler then replace the thermostat.

Could be the plug wires or the igntion coil overheating and shorting. The tempatures rise very high when the engine is worked hard causeing the insulation on older wires to leak current and short-out, idleing lets either to cool enough to recover. Same is true for the coil.

It idles just fine but when you accelerate its sputters and dies if you do not work the pedal. the timing is good.. the Carb is getting plenty of gas. it has been turned up. just cannot figure it out

Can you raise the revs by gently pressing the pedal? That will largely eliminate the electrics or will it just not rev at all? Is the idling affected? Have you checked that the accelerator pump is working as it should, Is the mixture correct? (What did you turn up, the idle speed or the mixture? and is the timing advance working as it should? Is the fuel pump working properly? Make sure it's pumping enough fuel. Failing all that it could be contaminated fuel or a blockage.
You say the carb is getting plenty of gas but it sounds like fuel starvation or excessive richness if you can get the revs up eventually.
Disconnect the fuel pipe to the carb, put it in a deep bowl as you dont want it splashing all over the place and get someone to crank it. It should provide a steady good flow of fuel. Finally check all vacuum hoses/pipes for leaks

I am not getting any heat in my car and it was warmed up. The tempature gage is rising high. What fluid is low? I also, have a leak of something on the passenger's side coming out of engine, it is clear...

Sounds like it's low on coolant. Check radiator. If low on coolant, heater may not get hot & temp gauge will read hot. The leak could possibly be a coolant leak..? Anti-freeze has a distinct odor when leaking from a hot engine. If that's the case, find the leak and have it repaired.

My 97 RAV4 tends to overheat when sitting in traffic. Fine otherwise. Could this be a thermostat problem or a sensor? The check engine light is on also but this may be an unrelated issue.

yes...thermostat usually causes this bc its not opening...do you have heat....also radiator may need to be flushed.....coolant may be low..radiator coils may need to be sprayed out with air hose or garden hose...never a pressure washer...have a great day

I heard a squiky noise like some kinda old belt rotating, then it stop. 2 miles later i saw temp rise. i pulled over and antifreeze was splatter from the top of radiator.

Check the radiator hoses for a leak. The splatter was most likely the coolant/anti-freeze leaking from one of the hoses. Loss of coolant would make the temp rise and the engine overheat. If the hoses are good, look for seepage around the waterpump. These are the main causes for coolant loss.

I have a 1995 dodge neon and it is leaking coolant and the fans are also running intermittantly. would the leaking coolant cause the fan problem or would it be a thermostat issue or would the leak cause a...

there are two sensors on that cooling system, one for the gauge or light in the car the other to turn on the fans at operating tempature. to test for a thermostat issue, as the car comes up to temp check to see if the upper and lower radiaror hoses are the same temp, (laser thermoter recomended) i use my hands. if one is hot and one is cold than a thermostat is stuck closed. and yes a leak can cause a problem with both the temp sensor and the thermostat.
