Question about 2003 Chevrolet Impala

1 Answer

I just took my car to a shop to get a tensioner put on cause I'm in the marine corps and dont have time to do it and now the new belt that I bought doesn't sit right on the tensioner pulley. And I can't tell if the harminc balancer has been messed with. Plus there's a sweak coming from the tensioner still. What can I do about the sweak and how far does the harmonic balancer usually sit off the block?

Check for the belt being off on one of the pulleys by one groove.. I seriuosly doubt a Mech Messed with the balancer..

Timing belt

Did you install a new bushing with the tensioner? There is a bulletin that talks about brass powder on the old tensioner. If there is, install bushing no#JF01-12-754. It sounds like you put new timing belt tensioner and belt, but without the spacer, it could cause problems.

Took my car to the repair shop because my power steering went out. They told me I needed a belt tensioner ,belt and a pulley they would gather their prices and i would do the same. They havent called so I...

No, the timing belt connects the engine to the cam-shaft (these lift and lower the valves). This belt normally has teeth on one side and is covered so you don't see it. This belt also drives the water pump.

The power steering belt and tensioner are a different type of belt. I don't remember exactly but it is either a v-belt or a flat/ribbed belt. check closely, you need drive around the AC, power steering and alternator. there will be a tensioner and the engine too. Does all this get covered with just one belt (not counting the timing belt).

Car fires but will not start.

You have your timing belt out of time you need to recheck your marks and if your belt is 4 years old or more replace it with a new belt idler and tensioner pulleys

Why has the timing belt jumped again less than 3 weeks after being replaced?

My belt did the same. The problem was, the tension pulley was damaged on the first belt change.
Hope this helps.

Two new batteries, won't hold charge

I would Check the Belt Tensioner. If the Belt Tensioner is Not Holding the Belt Tight Enough it will not allow the Alternator to Charge the Battery and will result in the Dead Batteries. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

Maybe a fan problem???

What you may be hearing is the timing belt tensioner rattling back and forth because it can't hold it's tension any more. The tensioner will not loosen the belt tension enough to make the belt jump. I changed one on our Trooper and took me 2 hours and I never had to remove the timing belt.

if it is a misfire, then that means it is probably the plug or the wire, change those first, if not then yes check the injector.
