Question about 1995 Chevrolet Lumina

3 Answers

It is a 1995 lumina 3.1L 4 door sedan. I went to start it this AM and it started to turn over and almost fired up like usual, then it died. I mean DIED. There are no head or tail lights, the dashboard is dead (no dummy lights for battery check engine etc.)even the automatic door lock is dead and I have to manually lock the car. I put in a new battery about 1 month ago and up until now the car has been running great. This thing is so dead I'm pretty sure I'm looking at a major fuse or relay???? I read on this site about this model having a fuse in the pos. battery cable that can blow. Could that be the problem? It is so completely dead I figure that has to be it since not even the interior dome light works. It also has the anti-theft keys with the small black block in the key with a metal contact - could there be a problem with that? Pls. let me know asap. Txks.

Check fuses but one thing to check right away are your battery connections and definitely check your ground. If your ground has gone bad this could be the case. If you don't have the expertise I highly recommend you take it to a professional. If you need further assistance let me know. Also please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
    Thank you,

At least not without special equipment. All a jump does is do a quick recharge of you own battery (normal cables won't carry the current needed to turn your starter motor).
actually the control module in the car will got short circuit.and also do you get any spark when you try to start or nothing

First thing is check your battery connections. Your ground may be faulty and could be bad. Replace the negative/ground cable if it's highly corroded etc... Also check your fuses. If any of this is out of your expertise I highly recommend you take it to a professional. If you need further assistance let me know. Also please take a moment to accept and rate my solution accordingly.
Thank you,

Chevy lumina 1995 van

I have a 96 Chevy Lumina with an electric sliding side door. A few weeks ago we started having problems with it. I went to work and when I got ready to leave it would not start. I had to have it jumped. Got home and let it set over the Thanksgiving weekend. Went to start it the Mon/Tues after and nothing. Let it set another week and still nothing. We jumped it again and it took 15 minutes to get enough of a charge in the battery to get it started. Took it to a battery store and they checked the battery and said that was the problem. We replaced the battery (it wasn't that old) and went home. A few days later it wouldn't start again. Could this problem have anything to do with the electric slinding door? if so, any suggetions on how to fix it?

1995 lumina sedan won't stay running

Sounds like the results we had on a Jeep Cherokee after a friend showed us how well his heated pressure washer could clean up an engine comparment.

It took a couple of days before the Jeep ran normally again.

I think the splash caused some seepage into a connector, perhaps one connecting some sensor to the 'computer.'

Letting the car dry out if you can keep it running for 20 minutes or so until the engine is warmed up and then ignoring it for some hours might help.
