Question about 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee

1 Answer

This may sound crazy but....

I have a 93 limited and have paid 3 different people to fix this jeep. Had tune up, new fuel filter & pump, and just recently the alarm system bypassed! Everytime I drive away it runs fine till I'm down the street and it starts to act up again! It feels like it's going to run out of bucks, backfires, and spudders! I pull over, hit the gas tank a couple of times, and then it runs like a charm for about a mile then does it all over again! Please help..I can't afford to spend anymore $$ on this jeep! Any ideas or help would be appreciated!

So I should take it back to the guy who put the fuel pump in and have him check the connection? Or is this another part I'll have to buy? Sorry, don't mean to sound stupid but I have no idea what's going on with this jeep and don't want to be taken advantage of! Thanks!

Thanks! Actually I guess I should have taken it to a shop! Just trying to save $$ These were guys that were recommended to me who do this stuff on the side! I will take it back and see if they will check it out! Thanks again

Took it to another shop, and ended up the first guy never put a new pump in it! Had to replace the pump & filter for over $500 bucks!!!!

sounds like a poor connection at the fuel tank connector to the pump, drop the fuel tank and have it checked,

I would say the connector may have an issue, either it is not locked into the tank connector or the connector terminals are loose or corroded, also u didn't say if the just the electric pump was replaced or the entire fuel pump module which comes pre wired. By all means I would take it back and have them look at it, they should do this for free is they are not a fly by night shop.

92 jeep cherokee engine cutting out after 30 minutes drive. Random occurrence/highway driving at 45 to 65 MPH. Engine cough/sputtering is dramatic and eventually corrects itself.

Sounds like you may have dirty injectors. Have you tried a good fuel injection cleaner? Lucas is a good product that works. You may have to use it in 2-3 tanks of fuel if the injectors are real dirty.

It would help if you found a shop with a code reader for a 92 Jeep and had them give you the codes. Unfortunately the free code reading service offered by auto parts stores only works on 1996 and later OBDII vehicles. Pre 96 is OBDI, from around 89-95, and requires a different reader or module for each manufacturer. Many shops use a Snap-On reader with different modules, and should have the Jeep module. Cost will vary, but the codes will help diagnose your problem if the injector cleaner doesn't fix it.

93 jeep grand wagoneer. Will start run a few seconds then die. does this over and over.

Check the fuel pressure. It sounds like you may have a weak fuel pump.If its not within the specs then replace the fuel pump and filter.

Will not start alot of turning over then you here fuel going through then it starts 93 jeep cherokee limited 5.0 v8

Your main ECU is in need of repair. Your jeep is displaying signs of the common delayed start problem. The check engine light does not light up, for a while, then when it finally does, the fuel pump gets power and it starts. Have your ecu repaired.

try replacing the fuel pump relay or swap with another relay from under the hood and see if that makes any difference if it does scrap your relay and get a new one

My 93 jeep grand cherokee runs rough while in idle

Injector cleaner that goes in the tank is ****. I would take the injectors off and have them cleaned by a profesional for about $30-$40. Or you can do it yourself but it is a task.

93 grand cherokee has a very rough idle what could be the problem

Also check the vaccum hose from the fuel pressure regulator to the intake manifold, it is right on top, to the front right of the valve cover where the fuel lines attach to the fuel rail, there is a small vaccum hose that runs from the regulator to the intake manifold, I have a 93 grand cherokee limited w/ 4.0L 6cyl, it was hard to start at times, wouldnt start at times without starting fluid spray and had your symptoms at idle, running rough like it wanted to stall like it was out of gas, I had various opinions ranging from fuel pump was bad to the fuel filter to the fuel presure regulator, the fuel pump relay ,etc....after replacing the relay and having the same symptoms, some digging brought me to this vaccum hose, wich had a break in it, when it was replaced it allowed the regulator to have the correct fuel pressure output and solved all the afforementioned problems way cheaper than the suggested alternitives. good luck.
