I'm trying to set the clock, the manual that came with the car is for 2006; the instructions (no diagram) say to press the clock button (a button with a clock icon, parallel to the CD port on its left side), that should cause the clock to start blinking but that isn't happening. Also the ''information'' button does not seem to activate anything.

On the key problem, have you tried moving the shifter forward more in park. Or move your steering wheel side to side while turning the key. If your have an owners manual it will tell you how to set the clock.
Yes it is all related. The clock spring was not secured before removing and rotated out of position when it was removed from the steering colume. The clock spring component will need to be replaced also check for any loos or pinched wires
