Honda-crv 2008, When to change the oil.

In Honda crv-2008 dash board has functionality that suggests when to have oil change and what % has been used. I have 4200 miles on my car and it showing 70% oil level. I checked with Honda dealer service dept and the guy say you should change it on every 5000 miles regardless of oil level or dashbord indicator. what is your suggestion?

Honda say thats not true and to wait until the car tells you when to change it. I have a 2008 CRV and you should and can wait till the oil say 15%! We took ours in after a long road trip for our first oil change. We had over 5K and the oil said 65%. The guy said that we did not need to bring it in. We still had change it while it was their but the car goes around 8-9 K on a oil change. A little wrench will come on and the oil life % will come on when it reach15% and will come on every time you start the car till you get it changed.

If you like a car and want good service from it 5k is the correct frequency for oil changes.

I have a 2006 honda crv with 129,000 miles I have used amsoil 5/20 was wondering if I could shift to a 5/30 amsoil

No reason why not unless it is subject to very low temperatures when a 0W/30 would probably be more suitable. 5W/30 is recommended for normal use in a temperate climate with increased oil changes for harsh conditions.

Can i use Penrite 10w-40 semi synthetic oil in my 2002 Honda CRV for one oil change only plus filter change? car has done 248k's with no oil use

You could do that. It is a thicker oil and heavier weight, not usually recommended in the winter time cause it makes it harder to start the car. Your car has high miles thus more wear, I usually use 10w-40 in place of high-mileage oils (cause it has less detergents) unless the car has been using full synthetic oil from the start. I'd say ok, and if it runs sluggish then you can use something like Marvel Oil to thin it down and that will help clean and lubricate your engine too.

What type of engine oil should i use to topup my honda crv '05

Honda usually recommends 5w-20 oil, but if it has over 80,000 miles I usually use 5w-30. You should top off with whatever kind of oil was used at the last oil change (top regular oil with regular, synthetic with synthetic, etc...)

I jusy purchased a 2008 honda accord with no owners manuel. The car has 19,000. miles. The oil life states its at 100%. My question is do I get an oil change?

100% indicates the oil is new, or at least the oil life meter has been reset. It counts down as it gets closer to oil change time.
