Question about 1988 Pontiac LeMans

1 Answer

On older Pontiacs power windows(GM-Lemans 1964+);How does the stop limit for up or down positions work, is it a limit switch or a mechanical stop? When disassembled the positions of arms were not noted. They were reassembled in approximate positions. How can exact up position be adjusted other than disassembly and fighting that spring loaded gear? . Any manuals on this subject since my original manual does not address problem? What is the limit of the adjustment (?) screw on the motor?

Where is the power window relay located on a 1964 Pontiac GTo with AC.

I believe those older cars used circuit breakers, not relays, for the power window systems. By using a test light, you don't know if battery voltage is present at the window switch. Maybe the voltage is reduced, somehow.
I would first check the switch's power with a voltmeter. If the motor is getting battery voltage, I would say the motor. If the voltage is low,
you had better find a wiring diagram, Dave, to trace it out.

Trunk Latch will not pull closed.

The small switch is the trunk by the pull down motor with the flap that depresses down is at fault. That is what you call the truck pull down switch. You can take this part and show it to a Cadillac or Ford parts department sales person and get a replacement for you car. Ford uses the same part for their Lincolns and Crown Vic's. The part is made by the very same supplier for Ford & GM. Ford will sell this part at a much lower cost as well compared to GM

when the window has reached the top position keep the window switch up for 15 sec, operate the window complete down and when down hold the window switch down for 15 sec test this after. all you are doing is to teach the control unit the limit stop and open position.

Passeger side rear window

Replace the guide with a good one from a auto wrecker. These are cheap, poorly built cars from South Korea. The front wheel drive Pontiac LeMans was also built by Daewoo which GM owns a share of, and they had lots of problems compared to the German built Opel Kadett/ UK built Vauxhall Astra that it was based on. You get what you pay for. My advice is to find a cheap source for parts or trade it in on something more reliable.

Window switch repair

Most likely it's going to be easier to just replace the switch assembly on the driver's door. They often have the electronics encased in such a way that you end up breaking parts trying to access the guts of the system. At our local salvage yard, a window switch module is less than $10 - I'd go that route and see if it fixes your problem. If it doesn't, you can return the part you bought, and at that point, look into a new window regulator (the drive mechanism in the door that lifts and lowers the window).

2004 f150 supercrew driver's side front window.

Hey Ford 4 Life!

Sounds like either the glass has separated from the bottom edge mounting frame and has slipped down into the door independent of the mechanism, or the bottom edge mounting frame has disattached from the rest of the lift mechanism.

Try this: Power the window mechanism to the full down position. Then try and retrieve the glass from within the door, and by hand move the glass within the guide grooves to the fully raised position. Now whileholding the glass in that position power the lift mechanism up all the way. If it catches properly, this will hold the window closed.

But to really fix the problem will involve removing the door panel to gain access (limited though it be) to the glass, mounting frame and lift mechanism. This area is a little tricky, but most auto glass shops can fix this easily (and cheaply!) as they have the tools and the expertise...

Hope this is a hlp and good luck!
