Problem with 2000 Pontiac Montana My 2000 Montana gauge is showing that's over heating even when it's driven a short distance and when driven on the freeway it's not smelling like its over heating or there no steam coming from under the hood. Today I drove about 10 mins and when I got home my husband took off the radiator cap and you can hear it bubble he had to take of very slowly. He just replaced the thermostat and also bleed it, and another thing is that when the gauge shows that its hot the heater blows out cold air. Does anyone knw what the problem could be.
Well check the oil possible head gaskets oil will look like choco milk.also there is a steel pipe above the water pump with a small screw on top un screw it bleed the air. also by the throttle body on the intake there is a coolant censor take it out also will help bleed air it is the highest point of the engine.please do this cold.
If the gas gauge does not work correctly and the temp gauge reads hot, you could have a problem with the instrument panel.
Both gauges get power from the same circuit, but each gauge is grounded by its own sending unit.
If the temp gauge is reading correctly, you could have air in the cooling system and it is not actually full of liquid coolant.

It is probably the problem. To make shure that need to change the gaskets, one of the symptoms use to be thet the temp rises when you are running at speed 50+ average, where is supposed that the car gets a lot of air due by the speed and nobody thinks that will be overheated.
SOURCE: 2004 Pontiac Montana blows cold air in defrost
There is a mix damper inside your duct that controls the heat over heater core and ac evaporator that to your floor and one to your defrost. it is probable an electric actuator, that is not functioning properly. If yu can locate it and manually move it, you might have to remove the actuator motor first, you should be able to figure out your problem, I hope this helps! merry Christmas!

How cold is it there and does your engine cool down any while going slow? If it does it may mean you need a hotter thermostat installed, My first thought would be to check the coolant level in the radiator and the coolant reservoir! Hope this helps and Merry Christmas

Its definitly a bad reading, you would know if your vehicle is overheating, you can usually smell it right away.I would say its your temperature gauge sending unit is defective, check the wires to see if they are well connected or broken. ask a backyard mechanic for assistance.
