1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Stalls when put in gear V8

Same problem here, have replaced Throttle Position sensor, Idle Air motor, got code that Coil was misfiring. Replaced coil and sensor in distributor. Now I'm beside myself.

This is a 1997 Grand Cherokee with a 4.0 liter straight (in line) six. The problem started with low idle and stalling when going from drive to idle. Now the car periodically quits all together, once at 70 mph, will restart if moving, typically before a dead stop. If it stalls at idle, will take a couple of minutes (I guess the part failing cools down) then will restart. Have changed Idle Air motor, Throttle Position sensor, and recently got a code for main coil failure and multiple (all) cylinder missfire. Changed coil (was cracked) did nothing for the problem. Changed sensor in distributor, still no change.

Did u clean the throttle body of all sludge, carb cleaner and a tooth brush work well, also did u disconnect the battery after you replaced parts listed so computer could re-learn base line sensor inputs, this is very important.

Check the starter solenoid, and the ignition switch located inside the steering column, this if the motor does not engage.

The main suspect is a vacuum leak , small leaks are quite difficult to find and can cause same problem.

If the problem happens only when car is idling and cold, then check the air intake, and the air temperature sensor in there.

If this happens all the time, check that this is also not a problem with the torque converter staying on because of a faulty solenoid or a short.

2001 jeep grand cherokee stalls as i coast to a stop, jest had a tuneup

I would check the fuel pressure and take a look at the throttle position sensor and the idle air control valve.
Most of the time stalling on take-off is a lack of fuel, and stalling at idle is a lack of air going thru the control valve or the throttle body.

you need to check the fuel pressure, and did you mean you replaced the distributor or just the rotor because inside the distributor is a pickup plate that some times causes this also 02 sensor can cause this.is your check engine light on if so go to chain auto parts store they usually read your codes for free.

Where is the pcm on 1997 jeep grand cherokee 6 cyl?

I don't think the PCM is your problem, is the check engine light on? It could be you idle air control motor this is located on the throttle body, but because this happens while driving I am thinking you will need to replace your crank shaft position sensor it is located on the transmissinon bell housing it is very hard to replace without the correct tools. If the check engine light is on take it to a local auto parts store and ask if they can check the check engine codes for you they usally will do this for free.

I have a 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.2l V8. It starts but doesn't idle. When put in gear it stalls out. I have replaced the fuel filter and put in and additive to clean the injectors and clean out...

TRY THIS PROCEDURE:
Here is the most common cause of surges and stalls and low idle, it is the idle speed control air-bypass valve and throttle valve, they get full of gunk over the miles and cause idle issues (stalls) like yours, Get a can of intake cleaner from any local parts store, not carb spray, intake cleaner, it is made by a company called CRC, remove the air intake hose to the engine, hold the idle high so the engine won't stall, then spray the can of cleaner into the intake while keeping the engine running, use at least 1/2 the can, shut down the engine and disconnect the battery for 5 minutes, then restart and complete a number of mixed driving cycles, town, freeway, stop and go etc., after a few days the problem will go away as the system will relearn to the clean intake
