First you need to remove the fan (use a 32mm wrench and a hammer to break the nut loose, its reverse threads!!!) After that locate the tensioner. Its the smaller one inbetween the crank pulley and the power steering pump. Now if theres a spot on the pulley for a 16mm socket, thats where you will turn the pulley clockwise to loosen the belt. If not, remove the dust cover on the pulley. It maybe a Torx screw (30 or 40 size). 318isM44 Fan Belt Replacement - 1f44cf2.png

1991 BMW 325is Question: do you have to remove the clutch fan to fix the fan belts

IT should not be necessary to do this. Loosen off the belt /belts and when you have the one needing replacement place a section of the belt over a fan blade and turn the fan and place the belt over the next blade and son until all the belt is in front of the fan. pull the belt out from In front of the fan. Replace the belt buy by a reverse procedure.

Noise from ford focus fan belt tensioner

You could just tighten up the fan belt. Loosen off 3 Bolts on the alternator just enough to be able to move it, then retighten. Stuff the idea of buying a replacement, for something that will last the lifetime of the car.

I need to replace the fan belt. Which pulleys does it go around?

Hi there,

My brother in law and I changed it without taking anything apart except the fan cover, what you'll need to do is gently use a crobar to release the tensioner pully directly below the alternator, and jam it a bit, then slowly release the old belt, if it's as worn as mine was you'll be fine. Then simply run the new belt starting from the bottom up. There's a great diagram on the weblink below.

Serpentine belt replacement on 2002 trailblazer 4.2 l engine

Just replaced the water pump on my 2004 trailblazer the other day, removed the fan to get the water pump out. You do not have to remove the fan just to change the belt.
