Question about 1997 BMW 318
First you need to remove the fan (use a 32mm wrench and a hammer to break the nut loose, its reverse threads!!!) After that locate the tensioner. Its the smaller one inbetween the crank pulley and the power steering pump. Now if theres a spot on the pulley for a 16mm socket, thats where you will turn the pulley clockwise to loosen the belt. If not, remove the dust cover on the pulley. It maybe a Torx screw (30 or 40 size).
