Flashing dashboard airbag light in 2003 Toyota Avalon
I have a flashing dashboard airbag light in my 2003 Toyota Avalon. It's been a problem for over 2 years. The entire airbag system has been replaced by Toyota, but the light keeps on flashing intermittently. Any ideas what might be the problem?
Re: Flashing dashboard airbag light in 2003 Toyota Avalon
I have the same issue (03 Avalon XLS) where the air bag light comes on/off at times at varying levels of brightness. What works for me is gently bending the center dashboard console just above the clock up for a few seconds by hand and it goes back off. I suspect the problem everyone has to be something with wiring or shorting in the dashboard area itself, but hope this helps someone have working airbags in their car and saves a life.

Certainly check with your Toyota Dealer as the vehicle is hopefully is still under factory warranty at that milage. The Air bag light flashing is certainly cause for concern, and having an airbag set off without impact can be very dangerous and it is best to have a professional working on your airbag issues.
A component of the airbag system is failing. If you are steering when it flashes it could be the clock spring in the steering wheel. When this light is on you will not have airbags in an accident. only a scanner can pull this info.
This light is telling you that you have an Airbag Problem. You might want to Locate a Mechanic and have this Checked out. This is not something that you want to try and fix yourself as the AirBags could go off and Cost a Lot more to have the Dah and Sterring Wheel Replaced. The flashing red light that looks like a car is the "Security Indicator". This flashes when the vehicle is switched off, to alert potential theives that the 4Runner has an Anti-Theft system installed. Do not worry about it, the flashing is quite normal, and the bulb is really a Diode, and it will not drain the battery.
