Question about 2001 Honda Civic

Open Question

Cruise control not working.

I recently bought a 2001 Honda Civic LX 4 door, everything is fine with it except my cruise control. I press the button labeled "cruise control" next to the steering wheel on the left side. The light on the dash which if i recall correctly is right above the fuel gauge also lights up saying cruise control, then i accelerate to the speed i want and press set, and nothing, the cruise control does not engage and I just lose speed?

So after you push the button and then press the set button in the steering wheel it does not get into cruise control ? It sounds like a minor electrical problem. If you have warranty still I think the dealership should fix it for free.

Sorry i have not been able to help you.

Does your speedometer work properly? if not, check your speed sensor. Many times the connection to your speed sensor may be left disconnected especially after clutch replacement.

The cheapest place to start is to replace all of the vacuum lines. If they are old, dried out, and cracked, that might be your problem.

Could be a blown fuse, or it could be a faulty sensor switch , either on the brake or excelorater.

SOURCE: Honda Civic cruise control fuse

Look in the owners manual that's in the glove box, if there is one, that will show you where and what rated fuse it is. Usually on the back of the fuse cover there is a diagram of the fuses and what the rating is.

The the cruise control switch on my 2001 honda civic works because i tested it, but the cruise control does not work

Check brake pedal switch which kicks out of cruise when you hit the brakes. These jump out of place easily so check that it is depressed when pedal is released (up).

2003 Lincoln ls v-8 cruise control won't engage. Light won't come on or anything when I hit the button. Everything else work fine.

My 2001 Lincoln ls cruise control will not work. Put in a new clockspring and that did not fix it. radio controls and horn work but the air bag light stays on continually after starting. The lights on the cruise side will go on an off -I have bought that part to replace but don't want to put on if that is not the problem.

Cruise control how to use

Most cruise controls are designed to disengage when you press the brake pedal. I always mention this first because people tend to try to press the clutch pedal while the cruise control is engaged and this startles them when the engine revs up all the way...

Anyway, to use your cruise control:

1) Press the Cruise control button to on.
2) Drive up to the speed you need to go.
3) Press the "Set/Coast" button.
4) let go of the accelerator pedal

If the cruise control system is operating correctly, your vehicle will continue to travel at the same speed until you either press the brake pedal or you cancel the cruise setting with the cancel button of the cruise control.

Remember: Your civic is not equiped with a radar system for your cruise control, so if you are aproaching an intersection or traffic in front of you, do not expect the car to know it needs to stop. Also, cruise control only operates the accelerator pedal i your car, it is not autopilot, so it will not steer your car for you.

(you think it sounds silly that I am writing this? You should see my friend's car... He thought Cruise control was like autopilot, so he smashed his brand new civic into a tree...)

Happy Motoring!
