Question about 2000 Ford Taurus

1999 Ford Taurus wont start unless primed (fuel problem)

I have a 1999 Ford Taurus with the 3.0 Duratech DOHC V-6 engine. It was starting and running fine. I let the car sit a couple of months and now it will not start. I hear the fuel pump come on with the ignition, I also know there is fuel getting to the fuel rail. I also know that there is 12 volts to the injectors like there should be. I do not have a proper fuel pressure tester as mine is older, and has a max of 30 psi. When I do test the fuel pressure with my old 30 psi fuel tester the car's fuel pressure immediately buries the needle on my old tester, but like I said the fuel tester I have maxes out at 30 psi. I know its a fuel problem because when I squirt gas directly into the intake the car starts and runs as long as I keep squirting gas directly into the intake. I really need the car as my Daughter needs constant medical care due to being run over by a stoned out meth addict illegally behind the wheel of a stolen truck. And just like everyone else these days I do not have a bunch of money to spend. I am a heavy equipment mechanic for John Deere (Nothing runs like a deer, or smells like a John LOL) so I have no real experience with these new cars and their new computerized systems. I am however very mechanically minded so if I can find out whats wrong with this car, (a fuel pump for example) I know I would be able to do the work myself. I just do not have the money to make my local Ford dealer any richer (if you know what I mean). If anyone out there can help me out with this car it would mean a great deal to me, my Daughter, and my family. Thanks & God Bless

Yes the filter is new. I am thinking that even though the fuel pump comes on, it is perhaps NOT pumping the pressure needed to "pop off" the fuel injectors. Of course I am speaking from the point of view of a heavy equipment diesel mechanic. (which I am) I know with the engines I work on at John Deere, I know that if the high pressure fuel pump does not build enough pressure to "pop off" the diesel injectors then a diesel engine will not get any fuel. That is what is happening with this Taurus. I can spray gas directly into the intake and she will run as long as I manually spray that gas directly into the intake. But this Taurus engine is NOT getting fuel through the injectors like its supposed to do. I have checked and there is 12v power to the injectors so I know its not an electrical problem. Besides, it runs fine as long as I manually feed fuel directly into the engine intake. I am also suspecting the fuel pump because even when the car did start on its own a few months ago, I had to pump the throttle pedal to start the car and keep it running when I first would turn the car over. I suspect that even then the fuel pump and or the fuel pressure regulator were beginning to weaken. Even then I could at least start the car. As I said I would have to pump the throttle while turning this car over, but it would start, and as soon as it ran a few seconds I could stop pumping the throttle and the car would then run fine on its own. Hence I think the fuel pump, and or the pressure regulator is bad. I just did not want to spend a bunch of money by guessing that I need a part that is not the problem. For example; the fuel pump for this car is in excess of $150.00 I can not afford to guess wrong and spend that kind of money right now if I do not actually need that new fuel pump. So I need to guess right the first time if possible, and I am hoping someone out there that knows these cars inside and out can help me guess right the first time. I truly appreciate your help and concern, Thank you

My guess is the injectors are not getting the pulse from the computer telling them to dump.

Check/Change Fuel Filter(s), PVC Valve & Emission Hoses
and/or
Gas that sits too long won't fire easily that's why we have to add winterize to our lawn mowers!
Try filling the tank with some high grade fuel cleaner additive. This stuff is like rocket fuel (about $10).
Also add a can of dry gas as you may have a lot of water and water vapor in your system!
Get a couple more cans of starter fluid too. (I always needed at least two to get my diesel running for summer)
Keep spraying and starting (It always took me at least a full can sometimes 2)
When it starts keep the gas pedal down and rev high for a good 5-10 minutes then see if it will idle.
If it still stumbles and falls consider adding another can of fuel system cleaner and/or dry gas.
Don't drain the tank as this usually just makes it worse by letting the bottom sludge stir up.
Never let your gas tank get too low as this will foul up your fuel system and always add fuel cleaner after every oil change (a must for fuel injection and cat. converter care)

Good Luck!

SOURCE: windshield wiper fluid will not squirt - wipers are fine but no fluid comes through

Either the pump is bad, or the nozzles are clogged.

SOURCE: Windshield wiper fluid won't squirt

When you pull the lever to activate the windshield washers, do you hear any type of sound coming from under the hood?  A whirring sound should be heard from the little electric pump that feds the washers.
If you can hear the whir, then you should look for a possible clog in the washer hoses (there is more than one...).
If you cannot hear the whirr, then you should check the fuse that protects the windshield washer circuit.  Check your owner's manual for the location and correct amperage for this circuit.
Good luck!

1999 Ford Taurus SW SE DOHC- my car will not start. The engine tries to turn over but it will not catch. Last week we were able to get it to turn over by spraying starter fluid into the manifold, but...

Assuming the battery is good, you might need to replace the spark plugs. They will only last about 100,000 miles at best. You might also have a vacuum leak somewhere. If you can get to at least one spark plug and remove it, you can then see how bad it is worn out.
The other suggestion would be to see if fuel is coming out of the fuel pump at all. If so, then back to checking the plugs, If not, the fuel pump would be the next thing.

yeah check the pressure with a fuel gauge should have around 40 psi or so. can u hear the pump run momentarily when you first turn the key over? if u have no fuel pressure then remove the backseat and check the wiring and make sure theres power to the pump.
