Question about 2006 Pontiac G6

Open Question

Pontiac G6 anti-theft issue

I have a 2006 Pontiac G6. I put new breaks and roters on the car. While the car was lifted I had the key in the ignition and had to put the car in neautral. It seems that this triped the anti-theft system. Once the breaks were on and I tried to start the car nothing happened. The remote does not even lock or unlock the doors. Is there a sequence I can enter into my car to get it running again?

SOURCE: Anti-theft

if the vehicle starts then stops and the anti-theft light is flahing you may need to re-set the pass-key system to do this you will need to atempt to start the vehicle and when it stalls leave the key in that position and watch the anti-theft light. it should flash on and off for about 5 to 10 minutes. when it stops flahing turn the ignition to off then try to restart your vehicle

SOURCE: How to remove or bypass the factory installed anti theft vehicle immobilizer.

in the 1996 sunfire GM uses an anti theft lock system. It can be triggered by all sorts of things. In order to relinquish this you must have a key to turn the ignition. These are not coded just plain cut keys. Once you attain this you put the key in and turn the ignition to the ACC position and wait ten minutes (theft lock light will turn off), turn off and take key out. You MUST do this 3 times and then the theft lock will be disarmed.

Had similar problem that is a seemingly impossible to bypass (tried 1500 ohm resistor and still could not match the electrical current in the anti-thefy system) so standard pice wont work. But if u swich the whole lock cylinder from another grand am it should work becuase it has the same electrical current is flowing wich needs to be active at all times for the car not to shut off right away (there is no chip in the key at all)

Anti theft system flashes and will not turn over. Sounded like a starter issue.

The security, antitheft or lock picture/icon is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterprets this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle. This link explains it pretty well.

I have a Pontiac g6 3.5 engine 2006 I turn the key it doesn't do anything and it says error on the dash

Could be a loose or dirty battery cable, dead battery, bad computer or loose connection to computer. Number of things that could cause this.

How to disarm a Pontiac G6.

Go into your settings on the radio and change it to RKE. The alarm will beep when you unlock the doors via your keys but stop once you turn the ignition on, the alarm will not arm unless you lock your doors either.

Will not start

Hey Sidney. On G6 it has a pass lock anti theft- in which your key is programmed into the computer. If the key is not programmed into the computer or ECM, then nothing at all, heres the steps, and where it says a new cut key on 1, ignore that, just use your key, and also you will need to take your g6 into the dealership and have them reflash the ECM, and program the VIN number into your new ECM, if not it might throw the check engine light.

1. Insert a new cut key in ignition and turn key to the ON position for
10 minutes and 30 seconds.

2. Within 45 seconds turn the key to OFF and then back to the ON position for
10 minutes and 30 seconds. 3. Within 45 seconds turn the key to OFF and then back to the ON position for
10 minutes and 30 seconds.

4. Turn key OFF then back ON. The key is now programmed.
Start vehicle to test key.

My 2008 pontiac g6 will not start when i put the key in the ignition the anti-theft light or w/e is coming on blinking. help please thanks

If you key has a chip in it there is a chance it may be damaged. If it doesnt the turn key assembly may have gone bad. I would recommend you take it to your nearest Pontiac dealer and let them look at it. Because if its the key you will have to take it to the dealer to get a new one and if its the key assembly you could get the part cheaper at autozone or someplace like that but you will still have to take the car to dealer to have them reprogram the computer for the new assembly.

I have a new key for a 2006 Pontiac G6. I need to know how to program it

Assuming it's an actual transponder type key, here's how...
Withe the car off, insert the existing key in ignition to ON (do not start the car). After a few seconds, remove it and immediately insert your new key to the same position for a few seconds. Turn ignition off and then try to start the car with that new key.
