My 1993 chevy 1500 Silverado truck suddenly quits

My ''1993 chevy 1500 Silverado truck suddenly quits and doesn't seem to getting any gas. If I put gas in the carb. it runs until it uses the gas I put in the carb. Mostly stalls when idling or going from a running mode to idle mode. I changed the throttle position sensor. tried pulling the MAP plug, sometime it runs after it stalls with MAP plug or the TPS pulled.

If I start the truck in the driveway and let it idle i let it run for an hour. Them taken on the road the engine is real smooth until I stop and then it dies and will only start when I pour some gas in the carb. It starts easily but I have to keep it above an idle or it stalls and won't start until I pour more gas in the carb.

csmock132: in reply to your response to my problem

"I still think you should check fuel pressure. Also if you have access to a set of noid lights, you can check for injection pulse while cranking. My van also did this when the ignition module was bad. It had spark but the ignition module wasn't sending the rpm signal to the computer to fire the injectors."

    What are NIOD lights? Thanks

After about 4 days of working on the problem, my helper started stressing things, wiggling things and such. He put a little pressure on the distributor and the truck started to die he let go and it resumed running. We replaced the ignition module mounted on the distributor and fixed the problem.

Thanks to CSmock123 for his help

I have the same problem on my 1993 chevy pickup. I changed the fuel pump, and filter. As long as you put gas in the carb it will start and run,but as soon as you have to come to a stop the engine dies.

I put a new fuel pump, fuel filter, and a fuel pump relay and the fuel pump is still not coming on. I am not getting any fuel. Can you please tell me what it might be.

Check fuel pressure. Sounds like a bad pump.

You can get noid lights at any part store. They plug into the injector plug and flash to tell you if the computer is sending the signal to fire the injector. When you are cranking the engine if the noid light is blinking and no fuel is coming out of the injector then then it has to be either a bad injector or low fuel pressure. If the light isn't blinking then you either have a bad Ignition module not giving the rpm signal to the computer or a bad computer.

is the check engine light on ? if it idling high chances are you have a vacuum leak take a can of carb cleaner and spray the egr valve and if the engine rpm changes replace egr valve the throttle body may also be plugged pull the vacuum line off the map sensor start vehicle and see if you have vacuum if not remove throttl body and clean vacuum passage hope this helps

Check your fuel pump presure. Pump is in the tank. Also try and loosen the fuel cap, the tank vent may be stopped up.

2001 chevy silverado 4.8 gas gauge not working properly

Fairly common problem with GM vehicles. The sending unit in your tank has a small circuit board that an arm is attached to which moves up and down according to your fuel level. This circuit board and arm are not making good contact. Unfortunately the only good solution is to replace this part.
