Question about 1999 Cadillac DeVille

I have a 1997 Cadillac STS and while passing on the hwy I got on it to get from 55 to 70 in a hurry and as I got up to speed everything shut down. Now it will not start and I get all the anti theft, stablity etc codes. Also the shifting indicator is flashing which has happened before. I have tried my spared kep and have removed the negitive cable. Other then taking it to the dealer what else can I try?

    I had a short somewhere or faulty ground. I had unplugged the computer/lowjack box, something with about 80 wires coming from it and had it setting sitting on the fender of the car and it started. Put it in and it would start again, pulled it back out and when I set it back on the fender and the theft lights went away and it started until I moved the box and it lost groun. I hooked up a set of cables to it and it started again so it ran a ground to it and it is good as new, well sort of. I had a bad ground in this car before and I had similar issues.

    1999 STS. Had noticed it seemed to be turningg over slower... Then all of a sudden after going into a store, came back out and no start, no click nothing. All the service stability, security, ... on dash. Dash lights go in and out randomly while key in acc position. Banging on starter does nothing, still no click. I can hear relays clicking under rear seat when attempting to start car. No clicks at starter ever. all fuses good. swapped all ign and start relays out just to be sure no stuck relay. Possible ign switch? Bad wiring to starter? Dunno.

Just one last thing to try! some times u have to disconnect both the positive and negative cables and leave the both off for 10-15mins. u see in these computers their is whats called a floating ground,which is independent from the equipment ground.their is a over speed and i believe a over reeve cencer in the system that may have become stuck, give the cables a try first, good luck to u, hope this helps!

    sounds like your on the right track, one thing to kept in mind is static electricity, just the slightest amount of it while working with the p.c.m. can kill it or mess it up, their is a ground cuff available at auto supply stores you should ware when working on or near the p.c.m. may need to replace yours?, very cheap to replace, look on line,you will get the im-fo you need to get the right one. again good luck to u..

How do you put a pulley belt on a 1997 cadillac seville sts


Align belt on track as shown on the sticker on hood or radiator fan housing. There should be a diagram there. Then take a socket and breaker bar and either push down or pull up on the tensioner pulley and put belt on. Once belt is on, release tensioner pulley and you should be good to go.

Which engine? Northstar V8's have the starter under the intake manifold. Not too difficult to replace though.

2001 Cadillac Sts: engine will die while idoling and sometimes while im driving...it also bogs down when driving and the service engine light will appear and b4 i can get it checked the light goes...


First item that I would check is the idle control valve. you can increase the idle speed of your engine if it runs below normal. Since you get a check engine light, I would suggest to get the error code.

Keep an eye on your temperature gauge until we figure this out, just in case & see if it climbs much/any at highway speeds.
