The clutch replacement will be a lot cheaper than replacing the compressor. When replacing the compressor, you also have to pay to have the system evacuated & recharged, as well as installation. To replace the clutch, it's a simple matter of disconnecting it from the power source and removing 2 plates and a coil and putting the new ones back in.

Sure but, it will be less expensive to purchase an entire compressor. the labor charge will hurt on the replacement of the clutch assembly.

What is the oil capacity for a/c compressor

The rule is, if you are replacing the compressor with a new or rebuilt first you make sure it did not come filled with oil first, if not then 2 oz of oil and then stand compressor on the pulley for 5 mins to allow oil to lube seal and front shaft then after you install it and lines are connected you will spin clutch 10 times, not pulley but clutch, this allows oil to be pumped out of compressor, you should also be replacing the filter dryer and maybe flush system if compressor locked up, if the clutch went bad you may skip the flush.when replacing dryer add 2 oz to the dryer also. good day.

2007 Dodge 2500 5.9 diesel. When you turn on AC you can see clutch try and engauge and after 3-4 tries it stops. No AC. If drive around for a while AC starts to work after engine heats up?

Working same problem today on my 2006 Mega Cab Diesel. 2 possibilities. Either the compressor clutch coil is going bad ( totally integrated power module tries to engage it a couple of times, senses the coil resistance is wrong and shuts down) or the TIPM (Total Integrated Power Module) is bad. I'm leaning toward clutch on compressor but still have testing to do to isolate. Could be both, but I doubt it. New TIPM is about $900 it appears from what I read. New compressor is cheaper. May be able to replace just the clutch coil for even less but reading mixed results. Good luck.

Your problem is most likely electrical. Check the A/C clutch relay, it is located in the fuse box in the engine compartment. You can also check the A/C high pressure switch or the evaporator temperature sensor.

Does the 2003 kia sedonas ac compressor have the pulley attacted or can it be purchased separately?

The pulley which is called the clutch asm is sperate and can be removed and replaced without the compressor being replaced but i have found that just about ever car or truck that i try to replace the clutch instead of the whole compressor i found the clutch alone will cost as much if not more than the complete unit, i have also found that the most common reason for a compressor clutch or pulley going bad is due to the compressor itself being bad. good day,

A/C compressor has a some bad , bearings. You can hear grinding noises as the car engine is running. Firestone told me that we had to replace the compressor before it siezes up & burns up the main...

You can try and disconnect the Electric lead to the compressor. If it is the clutch bearing that is bad it will not help for long. It will just take pressure off the shaft.

If your compressor clutch bearing is good, then disconnecting the compressor is a viable idea. The internal parts of the compressor are turned by the shaft and if the shaft is not turning, everything will be fine. But if the compressor clutch bearing is the part making noise (the part in front which clicks on and off) it will still turn and eventually seize.

There are a few things you can do. If you find that the compressor clutch bearing is the noisy part, check with Autozone or Oreiilys or Advance about tool loaners and what you would need to do to switch just the compressor clutch. This would allow you to do what you wanted to do in the first place and having a good bearing on the A/C clutch is mandatory.

Or instead of buying a new compressor clutch, having to borrow tools, and installing a good clutch on a bad compressor just to get it to freewheel its a lot of work. You could spend your money on a used compressor complete with a clutch on it at a Salvage yard. Then you could do a bolt-on replacement and have the Freon serviced later when you have more money. You would be starting out ahead with the different compressor and only need a part called a DRYER which an A/C place should replace anyway.

Either way you do it, it is mandatory that the compressor clutch bearing be okay. I hope that my solutions are very helpful in giving you a few options to try.

The heater works but when the defrosters are

The Air conditioner compressor is seizing when the compressor clutch trys to engage. When you put on the defroster the air conditioner automatically comes on to take humidity out of air.

I I have a 98 plymouth breeze i get a swish sound

The AC Clutch is going and is slipping, thus the swishing sound..sorry. When the Defrost or AC is turned on the Clutch is Engaged. And yes the AC Unit replacement is recommended over trying to have the Clutch replaced. Most mechanics won't even try rebuilding an AC Unit.

2003 saturn L300 3.0 Ltr AC clutch will not engage

From what I understand from the dealer, the L series has an issue with a/c compressors. My 2001 LW300 had the same problem. Usually the clutch coil is bad. If you take the 2 wire plug off your compressor and put power to one pin and ground to the other the clutch should lock. If not, replace the clutch. You can buy an aftermarket clutch for about $130. Hopefully your compressor is easier to get at than mine. Good Luck.
