Running rich and missfiring

Second hand engine was put in new plugs oil,air,fuel ,cambelt put on running very rich and missfiring even the garage is baffled lol any help please

Could be the fuel injector (spark plug connect too) or could be the wires

If it stopped running when the service was done then check that the plug leads were replaced in the correct order and also check cam timing.

I have a 2001 Santa Fe and I took it to auto zone and they put it on this plug in device Alto see why KY check engine light stays on and it said system running rich. What does that mean?


A guy who was selling pizza or delivering news papers last week put a 30 dollar toy on your car and he tells you it is running rich.

I would take it to a trained tech who can put a 4000 dollar diagnostic computer on it, and if he agrees then pay him to adjust the mixture or fix the cold start enrichment circuit to make the rich running go away. running rich means you have too much fuel in the fuel and air mixture being introduced into the combustion chamber. you are wasting gas just for starters.

a guy who has even a little tech training, who works on those engines all the time and has access to the technical bulletins and recalls is worth the cost.

Missfire on my vw golf gls 2001 on the 2 cylinders is it spark plugs and wires?? The check engine light is on and my air doesnt work could it use gas to make it work ?? Also when im driving my oil...


i'll answer based on the importance of the problem:

1. oil light.
make sure that your oil level is correct. you can check it by removing your dip stick.

2. air is not working.
it means you have a rich mixture (meaning your engine does not have the correct air/fuel ratio). most common cause of this problem is very dirty/very old air filter. if the air filter seems ok, have your fuel injectors and air vaccuums cleaned.

3. misfires.
to check if your high tension wire(htw) is working, detach the suspected wire from the spark plug (detach the end connected to the plug only). turn on your engine. slowly move the detached wire towards the head (cylinder head) and see if there will be sparks. if there are sparks, then spark plugs is your problem

Engine cranks but will not start. i have new fuel filter installed new plugs installed .i have fuel pressure at fuel rail ,i have spark at plugs and the injectors all read 11 to 14 ohms resistance per shop...


If you've got spark and fuel, it should fire up. Crank the engine for about 20 to 30 seconds then immediately pull one spark plug. if your getting fuel, it should be wet with gasoline. No wet,no gas. But then again, the code says rich mixture. Doesn't add up. Check all the connections at the mass airflow sensor and the crankshaft and camshaft sensors.

The coil will do this as will a clogged catalist converter ( exhaust restriction ) Oxagen sensers will fail after getting too hot too and sometimes after coolant temperture sensers get hot they say their cool or even cold and thier not and give a rich mixture. Not all problems will turn the check engine light on, not a lying senser ( a failed altogether one will) Are the check engine lght on and has the oil been changed recently? If you have a missfire the fuel from the missing cyclinder ends up in the oil and it'll heat up and the fuel blows out of the oil and goes though the venting system and makes the mixture too rich. A therostate that does let the engine warm up all the way will do this too as the engine will stay cold and therefore rich to warm up the engine. Being you didn't list the year ro model or car or truck or engine size I can only guess and if it's a carborated vehical theirs still other things to check.

NO.a garage doesnt even have to ask you what "extras"you want(aux belt)although if they asked you would you have agreed as "most garages are a ripoff trying to fit items that are not required...."the majority are not cowboys but get tarred with the same brush.

Your engine is still running rich, inspect all your vacuum lines and your fuel pressure regulator. A bad fuel pressure regulator can cause your engine to run rich and is there any check engine light on???

Troubleshooting fuel system for 1975 jeep cj5


Fuel pumps just supply fuel to the carb. Either they work or don't work. I would make sure that the mixture screws on the carb are set properly. Turn the screws in to lean out the mixture, do one at a time.
You want to turn the screws in to the point where the jeep will start to idle rough and then back out a 1/2 turn. Check your timing also. If the jeep has alot of miles on it, the timing chain will stretch and it's possible that you cannot get the correct timing.

Trouble shooting a missfire


Any DTC codes?
It is a very bad idea to use a lot of fuel injector cleaner - you will ruin your injectors.
Is the oil loss through the engine or on the floor? How about oil in the antifreeze?
This engine has two crank sensors - when one fails, the engine will usually run rough - you can't check them, so change them both.
Did you check the traction control system? Is it always on?
A faulty EGR valve and/or TPS sensor can also often cause your misfire and power problems.
And lastly the EVAP system is tricky on these vehicles - check the vent valves and hoses.
There really is no end of things that can cause these problems.
