SOURCE: HEI Coil is burning out

If the Electrical system is grounding out, particularly the hot lead to the coil. then you will fry coils. Check your Positive leads at the fuse box for continuity to ground. 1st check the ignition wire i.e. red wire going to your coil. Disconnect the ignition wire from the coil or distributor (depending where your coil is located). If it has continuity to ground, then go to your fuse box and pull out all your fuses and test each terminal for continuity to ground until you find which circuit is grounding out and polluting the rest of the positive circuitry. If it is only the ignition hot wire then you know that is where the problem is. If it is coming into the fuse block from another positive source, isolate that source by not allowing it to come into contact with + current.

SOURCE: wiring an hei distributor

You shouldn't need a spark box because thee coil is located in the dist. cap. You need to run a 12v switched power source to the side of the dist. cap that is marked dist. if it isn't maked it is the term. that is on the front right of the conector pad. the one on the left is for hooking up a tach.

I have a 1993 GMC sierra 1500 extended cab 4.3 v6 TBI and I'm hearing stories about this Accel Remote Mount Super Coil burning out Ignition Control Modules

I don't know about your particular application, but I do know that manufacturers are not using heavy enough wire for many things on a vehicle. So if the coils are bigger (higher output voltage) then they probably would draw more power and more load on control modules. I don't know any reason why stock would not be enough spark, these are a lot more powerful already than ignition systems were 40+ years ago. So in my opinion, no I wouldn't do it.

On a 1998 chevy cavalier what color wire do i hook the green off my tach to

The green wire from the tach goes to the negative side of the coil or if its an HEI distributor it will connect to the left of the hot wire going. to the distributor.

I have a 86 firebird need to know what the 4 wires are that go to the the hei distribator

ok looking from the driver's side of vehicle at your distributor. There is a power wire (which on most accel or msd distributors) on the right in the first row the wire connection on the left is for a tachometer the row behind it can either have 2 or 3 wires most of the time 1 is usually black and it grounds the ignition coil module inside the cap the other wire/s tranfers power from power connection to coil. A hei or high energy ignition system uses the coil module to amplify the voltage from the standard 30k volts to about 45-50k volts

I have a 1994 chevy k 1500 I puled out the motor and replaced it with a 1980 350 motor that is set up wit a vacum hei distributor, the old wiring is set up for a ecm controlled dist. how do i bypass this...

You only need one ignition hot for this. Look on the coil cover and it will say BAT and TACH above the plugin. Hook to BAT. Make sure your vacuum is hooked to a constant vacuum (manifold runner is best).

Have you looked down inside the engine were the dist. goes ? If you do you will see the oil pump drive shaft . You will notice a slot cut in it , now look at the bottom of the dist. shaft . You will see a key or it looks like a standered screw driver . Probably not linning up , need to take a long screw driver an turn the oil pump shaft till they do .
