The rear drums on a focus are a pain to do,you have to remove the four bolts behind it and the drum will come off with a few taps of a hammer, the trouble is the bolts are hard to get to,you will need a 13mm socket and lots of extension bars. Be careful not to damage the brake pipes because they are very close to the bolts.good luck.

How do i replace the rear wheel bearings?

There are 4 bolts on the back side to remove the assembly and then you have to have a press to remove the bearings from the drum/hub assembly

Cannot take off the rear drum

On some models you must remove the lock washer that is installed on one of the lug nut studs. Then the easiest way is to use a puller. I would suggest a three prong puller, that is what I have used in the past when removing stubborn rear drums

How do you remove the rear brake drum?

Before you begin make sure your emergency brake is off.

1. Jack up the car and remove rear tires.
2. With a 13mm socket and ratchet remove the 4 bolts that are on the back of the hub assembly. (You will need an extension and a universal joint adapter)
3. Pull the drum off and the spindle will come off with it, giving you access to the shoes, wheel cylinder, hold down hardware, etc... (you may need to adjust your brake shoes so the drum will slide off easier.)

Do not undo the nut in the middle of the drum (under the dust cap) unless you absolutely need to turn the drum or replace the drum as the threads on the spindle are known to strip very easily. Should you need to take it off the socket for the spindle nut is a 30mm.

remove the rear wheel, remove the dust cap, these are kind of tricky, use a very small screwdriver and pry the cap off. if it bends a little (the dust cap) it can be bent back to the correct shape. use a 30 millimeter socket and loosen the nut (counter clockwise). once the nut is off, the drum should pull straight off. if the drum will not come off easy you may need to back off the star adjuster or tap on the drum lightly with a hammer, (tap on the side the studs protrude from) be careful though the bearings are in the drum assembly and will pull off with it, the bearings should stay inside the drums. you do not want to warp your drums. depending on how worn your shoes are and if you have any kind of wear pattern in the drums will determine how easy or difficult they will be to remove. thanks
