Question about 2001 Ford Windstar
There is a problem with the device that senses exhaust gas recirculation flow. I believe it's called the egr differential pressure sensor. It is an aluminum box about the size of a matchbox, mounted at the front of the intake. It will have an electrical connector and two silicone hoses going to it. It is common for the hoses to rot out, check these carefully, if they are OK, you will need a new sensor.
